Position Overview:
The Department of Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota is seeking qualified individuals for temporary Teaching Specialist or Lecturer roles. These positions are essential for delivering courses that cannot be covered by regular faculty or graduate students. Opportunities may arise for teaching during evenings, summer sessions, and online courses, depending on enrollment and staffing needs.

Nature of Appointments:
These roles are temporary and may last for a single semester or an academic year, contingent upon various factors such as enrollment demands and faculty availability. This announcement serves to create a pool of candidates for potential openings during the academic year.

Teaching Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will be responsible for instructing undergraduate or graduate students in a variety of communication topics, including but not limited to public speaking, persuasion, interpersonal communication, and electronic media production. In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to hold office hours for student support and participate in departmental meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Communication Studies or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.

For exceptional candidates, a Bachelor's degree combined with a minimum of five years of professional experience may substitute for a master's degree. A Juris Doctorate with relevant teaching experience will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Communication Studies.
  • Five years of experience in college-level instruction.
  • Familiarity with the teaching methodologies utilized at the University of Minnesota.
  • Ability to provide high-quality instruction to a diverse student population.

Appointments will be made at the Teaching Specialist level for candidates with a B.A. or M.A., while those with a Ph.D. will be appointed as Lecturers.
