JOB PURPOSE:
The Accounting Assistant supports a fast-paced accounting team in a mission-driven nonprofit. We will count on this person to handle all aspects of the accounts payable process, assist with month end and year end closes, and preparation of financial statements. Cross train to learn all aspects of accounting while maximizing personal development.
JOB DUTIES:

  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable. Process invoices for payment; print and mail payments.
  • Research problem invoices, interface with vendors, customer service team and other appropriate staff to reconcile.
  • Log, post, and balance petty cash.
  • Record selected cash transactions in Matrix Care (general ledger).
  • Collect appropriate data and prepare sales tax returns.
  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries.
  • Reconcile General Ledger accounts and resolve differences.
  • Reconcile credit card and bank accounts and resolve differences.
  • Performs data entry and spreadsheet management.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and run monthly reports as required.
  • Cross train in order to provide backup for all phases of accounting.
  • Provide other duties of support as assigned by Sr. Accountant, CFO, or CEO.
  • Monitor office supplies and re-order as necessary.
  • Take responsibility for storage and other support efforts to keep admin running smoothly.
  • Analyze and resolve office admin and procedural issues; orient and assist co-workers regarding use of postage machine, copier.
  • Assist with Board meetings as needed, update Board list/directories.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Accounting experience preferred.
  • STRONG Microsoft Excel and quantitative skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and true problem solver.
  • Attention to detail; values precision and accuracy.
  • Team player, willingness to offer help whenever possible.
  • Ability to shift priorities as needed.
  • Eager to embrace technology.
  • Good verbal, writing, and proof-reading skills.
