Job Description

Research Associate who participates in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias in Division of Neurogenetics in the Department of Neurology ; participates in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies. Primary responsibilities for this position include managing the day-to-day activities of multiple research studies, including supervision of any project staff, coordination of evaluation activities, oversight of data collection and analyses, coordination of effort with collaborators and development of reports and other products; ensures compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; Identifies problems and/or inconsistencies with data from distinct cohorts/sources (phenotypic, genetic, longitudinal, neuropathological, biomarkers, etc); keeps track of data repositories to access publicly available data; coordinates data transfer with collaborators and to public repositories; helps the PI address IRB/protocol management; coordinates tissue transfer with collaborators following safety guidelines and regulations, and manages the inventory of tissues; evaluates and interprets collected clinical, neuropathological and technical data; prepares oral or written presentations, progress reports and analyses setting. Helps to collect/mine results from large molecular dataset; initiates and coordinates development of source documents; completes administrative work related to general study management; tracks progress of projects; collaborates in the preparation of manuscripts for publication. assists in preparation of grant proposals to sponsoring agencies. keeps inventory of all lab equipment and data; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and international conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project/progress reports, articles, and other documents; assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and team members; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 1-3 years of relevant experience required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health science research capacity is preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
