Job Overview
As a Research Associate, you will engage in the planning, design, execution, and oversight of research initiatives focused on microbial pathogenesis utilizing animal models of infection within the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity. Your role will include:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of study objectives and goals.
  • Designing and conducting intricate laboratory experiments involving both animal and human samples.
  • Employing advanced techniques in microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology, including flow cytometry and genotyping.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting research data.
  • Assisting in the refinement and application of new or modified research methodologies.
  • Evaluating experimental designs and analytical methods, providing recommendations for their application.
  • Establishing controls, criteria, and research standards.
  • Conducting routine experimental procedures on laboratory animals, including surgical interventions and drug administration.
  • Overseeing the care and management of laboratory animals.
  • Performing critical literature reviews pertinent to ongoing research.
  • Assisting in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national conferences and workshops.
  • Supporting the principal investigator in drafting proposals for new or renewed external funding.
  • Coordinating laboratory activities and supervising postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory staff.
  • Managing periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Executing additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Education Required
A Bachelor's Level Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in biological sciences.

Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant biological or health science field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is necessary. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to apply academic and practical knowledge in biological or health science research. Experience in a biological or health research environment is essential, with a preference for familiarity with microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology techniques, including flow cytometry and genotyping. Experience in animal handling and husbandry is also desirable. Successful completion of a background check is required; qualified candidates may be asked to undergo a pre-employment physical, including a drug screening.
