Eco-School Network is seeking a passionate and dedicated Program Coordinator to join our team for 25-30 hours per week.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the heart of a dynamic network of parents, students, and teachers driving positive change in Oregon schools.

You will support over 100 motivated changemakers who are committed to making schools greener and healthier.

These changemakers are primarily parents of K-8 students, along with some teachers and staff, all focused on advancing sustainability and climate justice in schools.

Position Overview

As Program Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in keeping our changemakers well-equipped, encouraged, and connected. Your efforts will have a significant impact, as our volunteers engage thousands of students.

Working closely with our caring Executive Director and Operations Manager, you will be part of a small team of three paid staff, supported by consultants and volunteers.

This position offers an outstanding leadership development opportunity and an intimate understanding of nonprofit operations.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a positive attitude, an excellent communicator, a relationship-builder, and someone who will carefully document our progress and impacts.

What are the responsibilities?

Recruitment and Training

  • Communicate with volunteer leaders by phone and email
  • Recruit new volunteer leaders through PTA meetings, social media, and referrals
  • Conduct our leadership training as a co-facilitator and co-organizer
  • Manage the online classroom portal and the low-needs online resource library
  • Send communications to trainees during the two-month course (usually once a year)
Changemaker Support

  • Attend gatherings (some online, some in-person, mostly in nearby districts)
  • Consistently advance our diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice goals
  • Energize leaders about school greening, sharing stories and resources
  • Make calls, respond to emails and texts, make occasional site visits
  • Gather data to measure success and help us improve
  • Organize annual weekend retreat and annual beach cleanup for leaders
  • Coordinate occasional distribution of resource kits to schools
  • Prepare and document the results of an annual changemakers survey
Communications and Documentation

  • Take careful notes about changemakers and their progress
  • Help update our contact management system
  • Write short articles for our quarterly newsletters and annual report; format newsletter
  • Assist with occasional operational tasks such as organization, mailings, and errands.
Fundraising

  • Support our volunteers during our annual phone bank
  • Gather program data and stories for grant reporting when needed
  • Help prepare for our major fundraising event
What qualifications are needed?

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for recruiting, supporting, and empathizing with parents
  • Willingness to uphold and advance our values
  • Independent, self-directed, and resourceful
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Commitment to community building and to equity, diversity, inclusion and justice
  • Ability to maintain organized systems and pay careful attention to detail
  • Willing to put oneself out there, inviting people to engage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google suite, and Zoom.
What are the requirements?

  • Two years of experience (part-time ok) in nonprofit, education, communications, or project management setting
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in environmental science, education, or a related field). Equivalent experience considered with three years in related field.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record or other way to get yourself around the Portland Metro area and occasionally beyond
  • Able to work remotely most of the time. Some in-office time required in Portland.
  • Able to move equipment of up to 35 pounds
  • Availability for some evening hours and occasional weekend events, particularly in the fall.
What are the benefits, hours, and pay?

Hours and time off: 25-30 hours/week (negotiable). Nine paid holidays, twelve days of paid vacation, up to two weeks of unpaid vacation per year.

Salary:
$31,875 to $38,250 annually, depending on agreed hours. Pay equivalent to $25/hour.

Flexibility:
Mostly flexible hours to accommodate personal needs
