This role entails serving as the deputy to the chief of the Navigation Division, overseeing the coordination of project scheduling for hopper dredges across various districts. The incumbent will actively participate in the West Coast Hopper Dredge Planning Committee.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the formulation of comprehensive budgets and schedules, prioritizing tasks and ensuring the effective execution of floating plant operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of field activities to ensure adherence to dredging directives and operational plans.
- Lead studies and investigations aimed at employing cutting-edge methods and equipment to enhance the management of floating plants.
- Oversee the functioning of repair facilities and boatyards responsible for the maintenance and repair of plant and equipment.
- Supervise the engineering aspects of floating plant operations, including planning, design, cost estimation, and contract management related to significant repairs and improvements.
- Manage personnel administration through subordinate supervisors, assigning tasks and participating in selection committees for promotions and placements.
- Assist in developing plans for the dredging maintenance program for the floating plant.
Employment Conditions
Appointment may be contingent upon a suitability determination following a thorough background investigation. This position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless prior requirements have been met as outlined in federal regulations. The role is classified as supervisory according to the Office of Personnel Management's guidelines.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for this position. Experience requirements include:
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience in operational and maintenance activities related to dredging and navigation facility repairs.
- Proven ability to provide regulatory oversight for budget allocations and effectively manage subordinate staff in developing navigation project management plans.
Evaluation Criteria
