Position Overview

The Chief Information Officer is responsible for overseeing Ames Construction's information technology and data management operations, and ensuring that technology aligns with the company's overall goals and helps drive innovation and efficiency. Duties include developing and implementing IT strategies, managing IT risk, and providing IT guidance to the company and IT team.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and communicate strategic plans and implement the objectives of the information technology needs of the Company to ensure the IT capabilities are responsive to the needs of the company's growth and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure technology initiatives support the company's long-term goals.
  • Establish and enforce IT governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Manage IT risk and security, including data privacy and cybersecurity measures.
  • Oversee the management and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and data centers.
  • Ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of technology systems.
  • Assess current information technology processes to determine efficiency, usability, and effectiveness.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives to improve company processes, client experience, and innovation.
  • Identify emerging technologies that can drive competitive advantages.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, allocating resources effectively to support strategic initiatives.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers for installing technology.
  • Plan and strategize to control costs, improve productivity, and ensure return on investment on any expenditures.
  • Build and manage a high-performing IT team.
  • Develop and mentor IT staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Ensure seamless integration of technology systems and applications across the company.
  • Collaborate with departments/regional leaders to identify and prioritize technology needs.
  • Oversee data management, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.
  • Leverage data to inform decision-making and drive business insights.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
  • Evaluate and recommend technology solutions that can improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Communicate IT strategies, progress, and challenges to the executive team and other leaders.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal departments/regions and external partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a similar role or executive management position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in information technology, computer science, or related.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a diverse group, including presentation skills.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to set goals and objectives, as well as financial accountability for IT projects.
  • Ability to build and motivate high-performing teams, and understand necessary training and development.
  • Strong understanding of IT trends, emerging technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Thorough understanding of data management and administration.
  • Ability to balance innovation with operational stability and security.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (NIST & CMMC) and data protection.

Working Conditions

  • This role is located at the corporate office in Burnsville, MN. This is an on-site role.
  • Travel - 20% travel to regional offices and project sites.
  • Office environment - extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching required; ability to lift 5-20 pounds occasionally.
