Job Description


The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.

The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.


The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for overall organizational development and implementation of the New York City Police Department's Equity and Inclusion programs and strategic framework.

The goal of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is to foster equity through policy and regulation, both in and out of the workplace, and to increase supplier diversity for the New York City Police Department (NYPD).

This is accomplished through transparency and accountability by applying nationwide best practices with our internal and external stakeholders.

  • The Community Coordinator/Project Manager will collaborate with the team in planning,


coordination and integration of the agency's Equity Plan and will focus on strategic planning to measure and manage NYPD Diversity Equity Inclusion goals, growth, and recommendations.

The position will include monitoring, tracking, assessment, and evaluating methods to recommend procedures and policies to improve equity and inclusion.

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinate collection and analyzing of data obtained thru research discussions, focus groups, and surveys affecting the equity evaluation of major policy decisions at NYPD. Data compiled/evaluated is presented to executive staff.
  • Prepare and interpret equity reports to assist in the recommendation and development of national equity best practices on behalf of the office of Equity and Inclusion for the New York Police Department.
  • Assist in identifying both existing and emerging research findings and information about changes in services issues and developments in policy related to protected classes at New York City Police Department.
  • Research and evaluate internal and external publications, and other written documents.
  • Maintain data (files/records/reports).
  • Special projects as assigned by Deputy Commissioner Equity and Inclusion.
Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
