Position Summary

The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role within the administrative team, collaborating closely with the principal. This position is dedicated to fostering parental involvement in the educational environment, particularly focusing on engaging parents with limited English proficiency. The Coordinator will work alongside school staff, leadership teams, parent associations, community organizations, and advisory councils to enhance the school community.

This role emphasizes the creation of an inclusive atmosphere for parents. The Coordinator will identify and address parental and community-related concerns in collaboration with the principal, ensuring timely resolutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance parental engagement by liaising with various school, parent, and community organizations.
  • Act as a mediator for parental and community concerns, including school policies and facility matters.
  • Conduct outreach initiatives to involve parents in their children's academic journey.
  • Organize regular meetings and events centered around significant topics of interest to parents.
  • Participate in parent meetings alongside the principal when appropriate.
  • Assist the school parent association in establishing by-laws, conducting elections, and managing their operations in compliance with regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison to Central and Field-based parent support personnel.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with community organizations that contribute to the school's educational programs.
  • Coordinate back-to-school events and other initiatives to bolster parental and community participation, fostering a welcoming school environment.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution along with two years of experience in community engagement related to the responsibilities outlined above; or an Associate's degree or equivalent educational background with four years of relevant experience is preferred. Alternatively, a high school diploma with six years of experience in community work may be considered.

The following qualifications are also preferred:

  • Familiarity with the public school system.
  • Experience as a public school parent.
  • Proficiency in organizing workshops.
  • Bilingual capabilities in areas with significant non-English speaking populations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation expertise.
  • Experience working with families and addressing educational or community issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

This position requires flexibility in work hours to accommodate the needs of parents, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Occasional assignments to different work sites may also be necessary.
