The Global Government Affairs team at American Express represents the Company's perspective on public policy issues before legislative bodies, and executive and regulatory agencies around the world. This position is responsible for managing issues on behalf of the Company with federal government officials in the U.S. This position is responsible for managing key public policy issue areas on behalf of the Company, with a particular focus on financial services and payments related issues. The role will coordinate internally with relevant business units and the General Counsel's Organization (GCO) to analyze the impact of policy proposals and develop the strategy to advocate the Company's position on those issues. The role will support team initiatives such as executive support, policy issue write-ups and miscellaneous projects. Externally, the individual in this position will be expected to articulate the Company's position to a range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, Congress (particularly the House Financial Services and Senate Banking Committees), trade associations, regulatory agencies (such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Reserve), and consumer advocacy organizations. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree5+ years of public policy experience with established ability to manage multiple priorities and demanding work environmentEffective policy professional with demonstrated experience in advocacy before Congress and regulatory agenciesExperience working in or with Congress and/or a federal regulatory agency, private sector experience as part of a government affairs team a plusAbility to deliver effective counsel to senior leadersAbility to thrive in a large, complex and matrix organizational structureAbility to provide leadership and inspiration to other highly talented individualsTeam player adaptable to diverse group of colleagues, internal business clients, and external stakeholdersAbility to work independently and collaboratively to identify and pursue strategic business objectivesAbility to handle multiple tasks, take on new responsibilities and prioritize work in a dynamic, deadline intensive environmentAbility to interpret and apply law and regulation in a practical, hands-on, commonsense mannerAbility to gain credibility, manage expectations, and develop strong working relationships with colleagues and business clients; convey clear advice to clientsHigh energy, team-oriented, self-starter, with excellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong communication skills in a business setting, both written and verbal, including PowerPoint proficiency Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
