Position Overview

Aptive Resources is in search of a skilled Legislative Affairs Consultant to assist federal clients within the technology sector. This role involves supporting government personnel responsible for overseeing Congressional and other oversight entities, facilitating the monitoring, assignment, coordination, and tracking of incoming and ongoing requests directed to the Congressional Team. Additional duties encompass contributing to weekly reports and meeting agendas, including the White House Cabinet Report and CIO Briefing Deck, as well as coordinating meetings with the VA Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs. The position entails limited administrative and communication responsibilities, such as taking notes during briefings and hearings, sharing relevant information with government staff, and ensuring that notes are accessible in an online repository for team use.

The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional organizational skills, a proactive approach, and a strong drive for success. They should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a larger team, contributing to innovative solutions for complex challenges.

This is a mid-level, full-time opportunity located in Washington, DC, with the possibility of remote work contingent upon client approval. This position is a contingent hire.

The anticipated compensation for this role ranges from $115,000 to $125,000. The position includes medical, dental, and vision benefits, along with additional perks such as 401K, disability insurance, and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Congressional cycles and processes, with the ability to track and analyze key legislation, preferably with experience in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Exhibit strong verbal, written, and communication skills; capable of creating and editing written correspondence while ensuring proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Foster strong interpersonal relationships; ability to establish and maintain connections with key individuals and groups outside the immediate work unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public policy, political science, or a related field.
  • Ability to support the creation and review of policy documents.
  • Previous experience in the policy arena for a federal agency.
  • Proficiency in using qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to evaluate operational effectiveness.
  • Capability to utilize data for presenting program status and making recommendations for business process improvements.
  • Experience in drafting notes, implementation plans, and adhering to strict timelines.
  • Responsible for communicating, both orally and in writing, with various stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and communication skills, including the development of reports, briefings, and similar documents.
