Job Overview

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) is dedicated to fostering opportunities for individuals to accumulate wealth. Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Chief Policy Counsel, the Government Affairs Consultant will be an integral member of the Policy and Government Affairs Department at NCRC. This role involves acting as the organization's lobbyist and subject matter expert, fostering and sustaining relationships with policymakers, agency representatives, and stakeholders to bolster understanding and support for NCRC's mission and strategic objectives.

Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid model, with specific in-office days designated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent NCRC in discussions with Members of Congress, agency representatives, and advocacy stakeholders.
  • Conduct research, analyze, and articulate NCRC's policy positions to elected officials and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate legislation and agency regulations pertinent to NCRC's core issues.
  • Provide expert input on legislative proposals and regulations to Congress and agency officials.
  • Draft testimony, comments, and talking points for lawmakers and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop policy positions and engage in joint initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions to advance NCRC's overarching goals.
  • Perform additional duties aligned with NCRC's mission as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a law degree from an ABA-accredited institution is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in government affairs is required; prior experience on Capitol Hill, with federal agencies, public interest law firms, or policy NGOs is preferred.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity.
  • Solid understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory landscape.
  • Familiarity with issues related to banking, housing, and financial services.
  • Proficient in writing, research, and synthesizing complex policy matters.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations in policy or public interest law firms is preferred.
