Chemical Market Analytics by OPIS, a Dow Jones company, enables stakeholders in the global chemical industry to improve operational efficiency with deep insights, future outlooks, price discovery and consultation from a celebrated team of subject matter experts. We offer short- and long-term market coverage for more than 200 core building-block chemicals with a full suite of advisory services and top-tier events held around the globe. The worldwide chemical industry looks to Chemical Market Analytics to guide decisions and help manage risk across the entire value chain.

About the Role:

As Director - Research & Analysis, you will manage and contribute to primary research and analysis for the global engineering plastics markets. Your research will include producer capacities, operating status, production costs, supply/demand balance, trade flows, pricing, new projects, general market dynamics, individual company analysis,and econometric modeling. You will provide written commentary for weekly, monthly, and annual market insight publications which include price trends, supply/demand outlooks, and current events affecting the various markets. You will develop new and unique approaches to leverage Chemical Market Analytics data and models for enhanced predictive services. You will also manage the global engineering plastics team's goals and dynamics to ensure consistent global market coverage and analysis. You will report into the Global Plastics Team Leader.

You Will:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of the Chemical Market Analytics business model
  • Establish and maintain a reputation for engineering plastics market expertise
  • Provide unique, neutral, and objective Global Engineering Resin Report Advisory Service content which includes the monthly report, Focus Reports and associated World Analysis services
  • Lead base chem weather special reports in response to industry events such as hurricanes, freezes, fires, force majeure events, etc.
  • Provide polyolefin related market expertise for Chemical Market Analytics Consulting projects and Sales client development
  • Build and maintain relationships with North America and Latin America engineering plastics producers, consumers, distributors, traders, and the wider-financial community
  • Develop and maintain understanding of Chemical Market Analytics supply/demand, econometric price forecasts, and trade grid models
  • Maintain the North America and Latin America production capacity database, supply-demand balances, and price forecasts
  • Utilize analytical approaches to enhance insight and deliver value to clients
  • Develop and deliver market presentations at Chemical Market Analytics' events and external events
  • Promote Chemical Market Analytics services and present information in client meetings and conferences

You Have:

  • At least 12 years' chemical industry experience which includes commercial engineering plastics
  • Understanding of key engineering plastic technologies applicable to producers and processors as well as plastic recycling and sustainability initiatives
  • Established relationships at multiple levels, including executive management with key engineering plastics buy and sell side market participants
  • Team leadership and management experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally
  • Degree in chemical engineering (preferred), chemistry (preferred), or economics (preferred)
  • MBA or graduate degree in technical discipline (preferred)
