NATURE OF WORK:

The Public Information Officer furthers and supports the Strategic Communication staff of the Orlando Police Department in their efforts as it relates to external and internal storytelling and media relations. The position performs administrative and professional work in multimedia-storytelling, video production, website design and pitching and handling media requests. Responsibilities include, coordinating press conferences and appearances by the Chief, developing talking points, photographing and videotaping events, and initiating, researching, brainstorming and executing original social media content to support the agency's strategic vision. Other duties may be assigned.

The position requires a dynamic, masterful multimedia professional who can multitask, with the ability to shoot and edit video and present material in an engaging manner. The position will also serve as a liaison with City communication staff to ensure consistency in messaging that is aligned with the City's mission and priorities.
Must have a deep knowledge of social media platforms.

Must have extremely strong writing and editing skills. Must have a general understanding of Florida's public record law and be able to facilitate public records in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring that active criminal information is not disclosed.

Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Police Public Information Manager and is reviewed through reports submitted, evaluation, and results achieved.

Examples of Duties Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in emergency management, public relations, multimedia, graphic design, English or communications required and minimum five years' experience working in media or public relations required; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must have a valid Florida driver's license; and ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
