Overview

The Community Engagement Librarian is responsible for connecting the Lawrenceville community with the services and resources available at Bunn library via captivating and engaging programming and outreach initiatives. While this role is tasked with serving the needs of all community members (students, faculty, staff), special focus is given to supporting student success and wellbeing on campus. By working closely with the Dean of Students office and other campus partners this position is dedicated to fostering an environment that empowers and supports students.

This position will work primarily in the afternoon and evening hours, when students are free to participate in activities outside of the academic day. This position will also be responsible for hosting Saturday programming.

This role will retain other responsibilities, including weekly reference desk duties, collection development (focused on developing a pleasure reading collection that appeals to teen audiences), and readers advisory (book displays, etc). They will also contribute to strategic planning for the library, including assessing programming and spaces to better serve the needs of students. Responsibilities

  • Develops, promotes, implements, and assesses programs, services, and events for the Lawrenceville community (students, faculty, and staff). This includes a range of community-oriented programming, from passive or small-scale programs, to larger events that focus both on connecting the community to the library as well as supporting student clubs and other campus partners.
  • Partners with the Dean of Students office and Director of Student Activities to support residential life initiatives, and connect students with the library. This includes weekday evening programs, as well as Saturday activities.
  • Work with clubs and publications to design and implement library-forward programming, including publication readings, creative writing workshops, book discussions, crafts, etc.
  • Work with Student Council Academic VP to provide academic workshops to clarify resources available to the student body
  • Responsible for oversight of the program budget and is fiscally responsible for spending within the budget line each year.
  • Develops and coordinates library marketing and outreach materials such as displays, brochures, posters, and flyers to advertise library programs, resources, news, and events.
  • Develops marketing material to support initiatives in partnerships with other departments and campus groups, such as student clubs.
  • Oversees the library's social media presence and creates content to market services and programs.
  • Oversees the Library Proctor student program of approximately 30 students, including the attendance, productivity, and leadership aspects of the group. Manages the application process for new proctors, as well as selecting an executive board. Meets with e-board and proctors on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates actively with faculty, students, and staff to find new opportunities for the library to support their initiatives. This includes programming for staff appreciation day, wellness day, HR wellness fair, etc.
  • Cultivates relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote library collections and services. Assist with in-house programming offered by outside departments (OMA, Religious Life, Sustainability, Community Service, the Hutchins Gallery, and the Hutchins
  • Institute for Race and Social Justice). Provide support for these departments with set up / breakdown, logistics, etc.
  • Design and Host two all-school Saturday night events (1 fall, 1 winter or spring) to take place between 8:00pm and 10:00pm in conjunction with Student Activities and the Student Council Social VP
  • Develops and creates Libguides with the other librarians.
  • Participates in library weeding projects as-needed
  • Participates in collection development responsibilities, suggesting books, ebooks, and other resources for acquisitions.
  • Perform other duties as requested. Qualifications
    • Masters in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA accredited institution or in the process of completing the program required.
    • Experience or significant coursework in providing reference desk service and customer service experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing programs for young people required.
    • Experience using website development platforms preferred.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and writing
    • Must have an attention to detail and possess strong organizational skills, an ability to prioritize and multitask, as well as demonstrated strong searching and bibliographic skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and juggle priorities while working independently.
    • Able to show initiative and flexibility.
    • Strong knowledge of the different media platforms for communication, including social media.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google, Adobe Photoshop, iMovie, Canva, and other graphic design software, as well as a familiarity with emerging technologies and trends.
    • Able to work effectively with a diverse population including young people (teenagers) and adults from a diverse culture.
    • Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule, with emphasis on early afternoon to evening shifts, as well as weekend hours.
