Ophthalmic Support Technician

UIW Mission

Position Summary
The Ophthalmic Support Technician provides ophthalmic technical and maintenance support for the didactic clinical and educational program at the UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO). The Ophthalmic Support Technician reports to the Coordinator of Optometry Operations.

Essential Functions

Job Duties

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Familiar with ophthalmic equipment and the ability to conduct minor repairs.
  • Knowledge of exam room functionality.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, or similar systems.
  • Strong technology skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

    Required Education
    Highschool diploma or equivalent.

    Required Work Experience
    At least one (1) year of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience working with, troubleshooting, or repairing optometric/ophthalmic equipment.

    Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
    Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

    Work Hours
    Typical Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional extended hours/weekends to meet departmental needs and/or needs of the learning community.UIWSO personnel will be subject to the leave and holiday policies of the School of Optometry and its Clinical Services, which may differ from those of UIW.

    Physical Demands
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs of office/classroom furniture and lab equipment.
    • Ability to regularly move about campus.
