The Chemical Intermediates Group has an opportunity for a results-oriented self-starter like you in the BDO department at the BASF Geismar, LA location.

The Chemical Intermediates group offers a comprehensive portfolio of chemical processes and innovative specialties. With our finished products and chemical intermediates, we contribute to the success of our customers worldwide, both external and internal to BASF.

In this role, you will support the daily operation of the BDO Distillation plant, providing technical assistance to optimize plant yield while executing the required production plan. You will be instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts when problems arise and act as a solution provider. You will be required to work with organizations outside of the BDO department that include Supply Chain, Commercial Teams, other unit Production Engineers, Logistics, Utilities, and other key stakeholders. This position requires strong leadership in safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Process Safety rules and policies.

  • Leveraging your bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Chemistry discipline (preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering) and your experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment, you will provide guidance and input to the achievement and development of plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets.
  • Your strong understanding of chemical or mechanical engineering principles and their application in a plant environment will aid you as you optimize plant yields and maximize plant profitability.
  • Your sound troubleshooting and analytical skills will serve you well to provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur.
  • Your familiarity with process equipment operation including pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, distillation columns will be essential as you offer technical and leadership support in root cause failure analysis for production, EHS, and Quality Incidents.
  • Demonstrating your excellent teamwork skills, you will participate in production planning, scheduling, and work prioritization. Your leadership of the BDO distillation unit will be critical to adhere to business and unit objectives. Working with the other BDO Production Engineers, Production Specialist, Technology Engineers you will drive continuous improvements and maintain compliance.
  • Adapting to changes in priority within the production environment, you will generate and complete MOCs, AIMs, and be on-call to respond to any after-hour event that impacts production or EHS.
