Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.
Additional Department Summary: The Department of Political Science and College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama seek applications for the Dean's Postdoctoral Research Associate positions. Successful candidates will hold terminal degrees and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in a research area within political science. The Dean's Postdoctoral Research Associate positions have been established through a major College initiative begun in 2019 to promote an inclusive scholarly environment in which outstanding scholars support the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College. These post-doc positions come with attractive salaries and the goal of transitioning successful candidates into tenure-track positions.
We welcome applications and inquiries from scholars of any area of political science. We are particularly interested in scholars whose interests would mesh with existing and build new targeted departmental strengths in representation, race and politics, social and political identities, Black politics, Latino politics, and migration.
Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity. The Department of Political Science will develop mentoring plans detailing benchmarks for possible transition of Postdoctoral Research Associates into tenure-track professorship positions. Standard university hiring practices will govern any process of transitioning Postdoctoral Research Associates into tenure-track professor positions.
The Department of Political Science is a well-functioning mid-sized department with strong and growing scholarly output and faculty committed to teaching excellence. The Department offers BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in political science and a Master of Public Administration degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate. Additional qualifications based on assignment.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in political science, public administration, or related field by time of appointment. Evidence of scholarly accomplishments and potential.
