Job Summary: The Research Scientist contributes to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Performs supporting research and creative activities such as data analysis, monitoring outcomes, performing lab maintenance, and/or performing experiments and creating creative projects. May assist in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.


Additional Department Summary: This is a research position within the Center for Complex Hydrosystems Research (CCHR) and the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama. Develops and sustains sponsored research programs. Seeks and obtains external funding to partially support the specific research program within the College. Conducts research with Professor Hamid Moradkhani on a variety of projects. Leads the hydrologic, hydrodynamic modeling, inundation mapping, develop peer-reviewed publications, data management, proposal preparation, and student co-supervision in the CCHR.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of research experience; OR Master's degree or higher and some research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Master's degree or higher).


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering or closely related field.


Skills and Knowledge: Effective communication skills. Ability to develop and sustain a high quality externally funded research program. Expertise in coding in Python, R, MATLAB. High performance computing, hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling, advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and remote sensing skills. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.


Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in writing research proposals.
