Career Opportunity: Controller

Location: Littleton, MA (On-site)

This position will be based out of our Littleton office.

Position Summary: The Controller will lead the operations of the Accounting Department to maintain the financial records of the Credit Union in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Also as a Controller you will supervise all accounting and financial reporting functions of the Credit Union. In addition, the Controller Perform various financial analyses for management, Board of Directors, and outside agencies. Lastly, assist the VP, Finance & Accounting with accurate and timely communication of financial performance to the Board of Directors, management, auditors, regulators, and Credit Union membership.

General Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead the Accounting staff, ensuring the department is adequately staffed with a well-trained team that has the knowledge and resources to achieve clear goals.
  • Regularly plan and conduct department meetings, as well as one-on-one meetings with direct-report employees. Communicate personal, department, and credit union goals, and track progress in attaining them. Follow up on discussions, issues, and questions that arise during meetings.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Ensure the accurate and timely production of GAAP-compliant financial information for the Board of Directors, management, regulators, and Credit Union membership.
  • Prepare a variety of schedules and reports, including financial reports for the Board of Directors, subsidiary ledger balancing reports, Federal Reserve deposit reports, FHLB reports, and NCUA 5300 quarterly reports.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the CECL model and provide research and analysis on FASB 91, CECL calculation, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, A/P, lease accounting/reporting (ASC 842), etc.

Technology and Process Improvement:

  • Implement technology-based solutions to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of accounting functions.
  • Ensure written processes and procedures are established for all functions and adhered to by staff.

Audit and Compliance Management:

  • Complete IT, Data Privacy, and Vendor Risk Assessments, as well as Vendor Due Diligence. Review SOC Reporting Requirements for applicable correspondent banks and vendors.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with internal auditors and the secondary liaison with external auditors and regulators.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Eight to ten years practical accounting experience
  • Supervisory experience of at least three years
