Compensation Range

$129,200.00-$177,700.00 Annually

This salary range reflects the expected compensation for new hires, with variations based on relevant experience, skills, and educational background. Additionally, this role is eligible for an incentive bonus.

Position Overview

Johns Manville is in search of qualified candidates for the role of Senior Principal Engineer for Environmental Control Systems. While a preference exists for candidates to be based at our Littleton Technical Center, we are open to considering exceptional talent from other locations.

The primary objective of the Senior Principal Engineer position is to deliver engineering expertise and technical leadership in the realm of environmental equipment engineering. This includes optimizing the operation of abatement systems, identifying improvement opportunities, addressing environmental challenges, and formulating technical strategies for current or future production lines.

Relocation assistance may be available for eligible candidates.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Implementing suitable control technologies to enhance the environmental performance of existing or upcoming production lines, with a strong emphasis on air emissions.
  • Collaborating with teams to ensure compliance with operational permits, particularly concerning the technical functioning of control devices or abatement systems.
  • Establishing and maintaining parametric limits and monitoring protocols.
  • Providing technical guidance to plants and Corporate Environmental in the development of new permit applications (State and Federal, including minor construction permits, PSD permits, Title V operating permit renewals, etc.).
  • Engaging frequently with personnel from various departments, including plants, corporate divisions, vendors, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Employing a disciplined approach to navigate complex environmental and operational challenges within a cross-functional organization.
  • Setting best practices for environmental engineering calculations.
  • Offering expertise on the operation and maintenance of existing abatement systems.
  • Advising on production and environmental equipment, recurring issues, or complex challenges related to environmental factors, including:
o Scope, operation, documentation, modeling, maintenance, limitations, instrumentation, data retention, controls, heat recovery, waste minimization.

o Diagnosing issues with specific production lines and abatement systems.

o Identifying long-term strategies to effectively manage emissions from both new and existing lines while maximizing operational flexibility.

o Understanding the implications of current and forthcoming regulations and Best Available Control Technology (BACT), thereby establishing viable strategic and technical approaches for production lines.

o Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, accompanied by a minimum of 15 years of experience in continuous process manufacturing focused on environmental control technologies, with experience as a project, process, or design engineer.
o Advanced degrees or multiple qualifications are advantageous.
  • A proven history of identifying and implementing new abatement technologies or enhancing existing systems.
  • A strong grasp of abatement equipment configurations across various technologies, including their performance characteristics, advantages, and limitations.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating and justifying the best options between upgrading existing equipment and selecting the most appropriate systems for new production lines.
o Experience must include considerations for addressing issues with current equipment versus applying various abatement technologies, including their costs, supporting systems, and net emission performance in decision-making.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of employees and disciplines, including machine operators, project engineering, legal, EH&S, finance, procurement, and plant operations.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities, particularly in complex data analysis.
  • A successful track record of innovation and adaptability.
  • Excellent project management capabilities, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • A results-oriented mindset, with the capacity to lead critical projects to successful outcomes.
  • Experience with complex Design of Experiments (DOEs) for technology enhancement.
  • Ability to engage with all organizational levels and influence decision-making.
  • Leadership experience, guiding individuals or project teams to achieve milestones and objectives through effective prioritization and direction.
  • Industry expertise, maintaining connections to stay informed about best practices and developments.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
