Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. The Senior Director of Strategic Accounts for the Central U.S. provides senior leadership and direction for a team of 7 Strategic Account Managers responsible for regional and government payers that have a significant impact on the access and reimbursement of Gilead's marketed products in the Central U.S. Targeted customers include mid-tier PBMs (e.g., Navitus), regional payers (e.g., BCBS plans, Medicaid, ADAP, regional IDNs). The candidate will be a key leader within the US Managed Markets and broader US Commercial organization within Gilead.

Responsibilities :

  • Lead, manage, and provide oversight of the Central US regional account management activity for the Strategic Account customer segments, including all commercial and government business.
  • Provide strategic direction for all accounts consistent with the brand access strategy to ensure the value of Gilead's products is recognized and that all contracts and discount strategies result in profitable access.
  • Lead, develop, manage the performance, and hire as necessary for a team consisting of 7 Strategic Account Managers
  • Act as Gilead's senior-level representative and counterpart to critical senior leaders within Strategic Accounts, facilitating a high level of dialogue, alignment, and access to ensure that Gilead can meet both patient needs and client goals while simultaneously providing profitable access and achieving Gilead corporate goals.
  • Attend key industry meetings and seminars to establish personal contact and relationships with key executives in the top managed care organizations; stay abreast of changing trends within managed markets.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on internal teams to ensure a fully aligned access strategy and resources to support brand objectives by working effectively with the Senior Directors of Marketing, Field Sales, Commercial Operations, Business Operations and Contract Compliance, and business partners within Legal, Medical Affairs (HEOR), Finance, and Government Affairs.
  • Work in collaboration with Senior Corporate Account Directors in Managed Markets to ensure effective positioning and pull-through of national PBM contracts at the Strategic Account level. Also, partner with therapeutic area-focused Senior Directors of Field Sales and Marketing leadership to ensure effective pull-through of contracted Gilead products' formulary position by Field Sales.
  • Provide active input guided by payer insights on assigned committees and teams, including contract development teams, product launch teams, and innovative contracting models. Make recommendations to Contracting, Pricing, and Legal groups regarding guidelines, contract terms, and pricing; ensure all purchasing arrangements are within legal requirements and contribute to Gilead's business objectives.
  • Ensure a high level of operational excellence at all times, including a competency-driven approach to best-in-class product and disease area knowledge, negotiation, strategic planning, contracting, business-to-business interactions, communication, and adherence to all Gilead business conduct policies and core values.
  • Plan, forecast and oversee team operating budgets for both revenues and expenses.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years' Experience

OR

Masters' Degree and Eight Years' Experience

OR

PhD and Two Years' Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of pharmaceutical industry account management, market access, and/or payer experience is strongly desired. At least 2 years of successfully managing teams is preferred.
  • Expertise in the US payer environment, focusing on access and reimbursement of specialty pharmaceuticals. Experience in HIV, Hepatitis B & C, Oncology, and Inflammation is strongly desired.
  • Excellent communication skills and executive presence with the ability to distill complex reimbursement issues into critical elements for senior executives to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills and experience in constructing, evaluating, and implementing contracting strategies that drive profitable access.
  • Proven track record of recruiting and leading teams of high-performing account managers.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% (2-3 nights per week, average) for internal and external meetings.
  • Meets all other Senior Director corporate requirements and Competencies.

The salary range for this position is: $216, $279, Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
