General Summary

Reporting to the Supply Chain Supervisor, this position of Supply Chain Buyer is responsible for ordering all materials for plant production. The buyer ensures that the materials necessary to meet our production requirements are purchased on-time and in sufficient quantities to for the plant achieve its volume goals and to help the company meet our customer's demands. The work also includes working with suppliers, carriers, and the corporate planning and procurement teams to ensure continuity of supply.

In conjunction with the buyer responsibilities, this individual works to optimize the inventory levels and develop tools to ensure that the progress is sustainable, especially as demands change or products reach the end of their life cycle in order to minimize write-offs.

The buyer also works with the Distribution Supervisors, Planners, and others to manage ingredient, materials and packaged WIP Out-of-Code/Expiration Management. This includes actively working with QA to obtain shelf life extensions and identify items that need to be reworked or otherwise handled to minimize the loss to the company. The buyer also works with the production planners to find opportunities to consume ingredients and materials prior to expiration.

The buyer also works with the warehouse teams at all Cache Valley sites to minimize out-of-code and other thrift losses. This requires analysis of on-hand inventory and weekly shipments to determine at-risk items and working with corporate planning and/or sales leadership to accelerate the movement items to avoid thrift losses. When thrift losses are unavoidable, the buyer works to find the optimal method of thrifting the product which will bring the maximum profit to the company and coordinates with the customers and the warehouse team to ensure timely movement of the product.

Principal Accountabilities

  • 80% - Buyer
  • 10% - Along with the previously-listed responsibilities, the buyer works with the accounting, warehouse and planning teams, as well as vendors to resolve invoice issues and ensure accurate and timely payment of our suppliers.
  • 10% - The buyer will also learn how to plan Cookie and Cracker production so they can serve as a backup when one of the other planners is on vacation.

Job Complexity

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize based on business needs.
  • Must be able to learn and use lean tools within department.
  • Must develop and maintain rapport with employees at all levels of the Campbell Soup/Pepperidge Farm organization to drive results.

Minimum Qualications

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • 2+ years job related experience preferred.
  • SAP and Envision experience preferred.
  • Production and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Should possess math, logical/analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Self Starter and results oriented.
  • Logical, organized, flexible, and multi-tasked oriented.
  • Moderate physical effort required.
