Lilly is designing and building a new state of the art Parenteral, Device Assembly, and Packaging Facility located at the Research Triangle Park (RTP) in North Carolina. This is an exciting opportunity to help build and operate a state-of-the-art manufacturing site from the ground up.

The OPEX Process Engineer within the continuous improvement (CI) organization is primarily responsible for partnering with all organizational levels across their area of responsibility (site/function) and global functions to lead Operational Excellence (OE) efforts and drive continuous improvement, by combining knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing with Lean principles and tools. The candidate is expected to own the CI Process to support our operations organization. Including, but not limited to developing, owning and running the process for all CI project, driving results, and communicating with key stakeholder like SLT to keep that status on projects. This person will drive results to include improvement across all aspects of Operations, Safety, Quality, Environmental, Reliable Supply, New Product Commercialization, Productivity, Speed, Digital Transformation and Cost, as well as employee morale at all levels due to more time being spent on patient value-added activities.

Key Role Deliverables:

Establish and support implementation of lean manufacturing initiatives in alignment with the Lilly Manufacturing Standards of Operational Excellence (MSOEs).Be an active member of the operations process, as an embedded team member.Monitor/build a strong safety culture and holding others accountable while leading by exampleEnsure consistency of operations across shifts through active engagement on the shop floor through Gemba walks (Practice vs. Procedure evaluations).Participates and/or lead cross functional teams in the development and implementation of strategies associated with the area for the following initiatives: Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), etc.Deliver necessary information and data about the new/ongoing CI projectsFacilitates problem-solving, shared learning and decision-making across plant functionsResponsible for schedule tracking, updating and reporting to all stakeholders for CI projects.Responsible for assembling Continuous Improvement (CI) project plans, teamwork assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts daily.Escalates technical and timeline issues appropriately for CI projects.Identifies issues that may delay project deliverables and recommends risk mitigation strategies, contingencies, and actions, when appropriate.Other duties as assigned.Systems & Strategies – Design and Governance:Lead the establishment of the competitive continuous improvement & operational excellence systems within the operational organization including Daily Management System (DMS) to drive process improvement, or streamline operational activities to increase operational run time.Facilitate the deployment of system standards.Facilitate and execute the process of systems governance and assessment – i.e., health, maturity, and performance – as well as the continuous improvement of the systems.Capture benefits of competitive continuous improvement (CCI) program and report to site leadershipAssisting in Engagements:Lead and / or partner on a variety of engagements, within the site/function as well as network level within Manufacturing and Quality. Driving the process/ project.Serve as CCI Coach partnering with Business Area Leads to facilitate the chosen methodology for the given project (e.g., Lean Lighthouse, Kaizen Event)Provide support to ensure robust Organizational Change Management and Monitoring Plans are in place to sustain improvementsEngage routinely with sponsors to provide status and escalate where appropriate as issues ariseEnsure Lean principles and tools are integrated into both project execution and solution designPartner with site leadership/ other functions, including site lead team and other governance forums, to identify and prioritize major productivity improvement opportunities. Leverage internal and external networking.Instructing and Training Others:Facilitate continuous improvement (CI) & operational excellence (OE) training to all levels of employees within assigned areas to support deployment and ongoing sustainability of CI&OE / Lean ways of working. Minimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, scientific field or related fieldExperience: 3+ years Operations or Manufacturing SupportPreference: Previous experience in pharmaceutical device assembly or packaging operations.Experience with leading projects/improvement initiatives using a CI methodology / tool set including coaching, teaching and mentoring.Demonstrated ability to lead change while managing multiple, shifting priorities.Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and analytical skillsStrong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor othersDemonstrated ability to maintain a safe work environmentExcellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skillsPrevious experience in operations or directly supporting a pharmaceutical manufacturing operation.Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and conceptsAdvanced computer skills are required (Data Analysis – run charts, pareto charts, pivot tables).Strong organizational skills and ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests.Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others.Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States.Other Information: The position is 100% onsite for the Lilly Research Triangle Park site.Periodic travel may be required (
