This position is dedicated to the production of high-quality products in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining oversight of the manufacturing workflow. As an integral member of the production team, the Process Engineer offers technical support for daily operations and manages a variety of engineering projects and production machinery. This role serves as a vital technical liaison between operations and other departments within the organization, focusing on continuous improvement across all areas of responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guarantee that oven and activation operations yield products that meet manufacturing standards and specifications.
- Enhance or refine machine and process parameters to achieve optimal product quality at minimal costs.
- Establish effective data collection systems for materials, production, and product metrics to support engineering evaluations.
- Monitor key production indicators and address any issues or challenges promptly.
- Conduct thorough analyses of operational data to foster ongoing improvements in product and process performance.
- Lead technical initiatives to resolve machinery, tooling, and material challenges.
- Collaborate independently or with other teams to analyze and implement corrective and preventive measures for identified issues.
- Assist in the creation of new products and the development of processing parameters.
- Oversee qualification processes for new products, processes, or materials within the designated operation.
- Ensure that standard operating procedures are well-documented, effective, and represent best practices.
- Integrate process knowledge and continuous improvement insights into documentation and training resources.
- Verify adherence to the manufacturing quality control plan and its effectiveness.
- Resolve non-conformance and quality-related issues in a timely manner.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production machinery.
- Facilitate the ordering of spare parts, vendor interactions, and drawing management.
- Conduct job and process hazard assessments, safety audits, and related evaluations.
- Identify training requirements impacting operational efficiency and ensure they are addressed.
- Act as a technical communication conduit to other departments and teams.
- Engage effectively with various departments, including Development, Quality, Laboratory, and Maintenance.
- Collaborate with vendors and contractors as necessary to meet operational goals.
- Provide support for operations and facilities during off-hours for process emergencies and technical assistance.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
- Engage in special projects as directed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Ceramic, Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of Process Control and Process Discipline principles.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Basic statistical knowledge related to data analysis and operational process control.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis.
- Mechanical aptitude with practical experience.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in ceramic materials manufacturing or materials preparation technology.
- Familiarity with industrial kilns and ovens or chemical dipping processes.
- Understanding of fundamental ceramic material properties and their implications for materials preparation operations.
- Experience in designing and executing engineering experiments with multiple variables and outcomes.
- Proven ability to analyze data and derive actionable insights from experimental results.
- Knowledge of MS Access, Minitab, SharePoint, and MES systems.
Working Environment:
- Exposure to mechanical noise.
- Dusty and unclean work environment due to raw materials.
- Variable temperatures ranging from warm to cool.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Prolonged periods of standing.
- Frequent walking, stooping, bending, crouching, twisting, climbing, and kneeling.
- Regularly sitting at a computer.
