As part of the production team, the Manufacturing Process Specialist provides essential technical support while managing a variety of engineering initiatives and production machinery. This position serves as a vital link between operations and other departments within the organization, focusing on continuous improvement across all areas of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production processes to ensure compliance with manufacturing standards and specifications.
  • Enhance machine performance and process parameters to achieve optimal product quality at minimal costs.
  • Develop and maintain effective data collection systems for materials, production, and product metrics to support engineering evaluations.
  • Monitor production metrics and address any issues or discrepancies promptly.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of operational data to foster ongoing improvements in product and process outcomes.
  • Lead technical initiatives to resolve machinery, tooling, and material challenges.
  • Collaborate with various organizational units to analyze issues and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Contribute to the development of new products and processing methodologies.
  • Manage qualification processes for new products, processes, or materials within the designated operations.
  • Ensure that standard operating procedures are well-documented, effective, and reflect industry best practices.
  • Incorporate process knowledge and improvement insights into documentation and training materials.
  • Verify adherence to the manufacturing quality control plan and its effectiveness.
  • Address non-conformance and quality challenges efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production machinery.
  • Facilitate the ordering of spare parts, vendor communications, and control of technical drawings.
  • Conduct job and process hazard analyses, safety audits, and related assessments.
  • Identify and address training needs that impact operational efficiency.
  • Act as a technical liaison with other departments and organizations.
  • Engage with vendors and contractors as necessary to meet operational goals.
  • Provide support during off-hours for process-related emergencies and technical inquiries.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
  • Engage in special projects as designated.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Ceramic, Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Process Control and Process Discipline principles.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Basic statistical knowledge related to data analysis and operational process control.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis.
  • Mechanical aptitude with practical experience.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in ceramic materials manufacturing or materials preparation technology.
  • Familiarity with industrial kilns and ovens or chemical dipping processes.
  • Understanding of fundamental ceramic material properties and their implications for materials preparation operations.
  • Experience in designing and executing engineering experiments with multiple variables and outcomes.
  • Proven track record of data analysis and action generation based on experimental results.
  • Familiarity with MS Access, Minitab, SharePoint, and MES systems.

Working Environment:

  • Exposure to mechanical noise.
  • Dusty and unclean work conditions due to raw materials.
  • Variable temperature conditions ranging from warm to cool.

Physical Demands:

  • Capability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent walking, stooping, bending, crouching, twisting, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Regularly sitting at a computer.
