New York, New York, United States UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund Full time
UNICEF works in some of the world's toughest places, to reach the world's most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, EDUCATION

The Education Cannot Wait (ECW) website was overhauled in 2022 to reflect the rapid growth of ECW – the global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises in the UN, hosted by UNICEF.

The new overhauled site was built to meet the needs of ECW's growing audiences as a key institutional communications and advocacy digital platform, as well as a transparency and
accountability tool.

The site's Drupal content management system (CMS) has powerful functionalities to streamline external communication and increase the ease with which ECW communicates its messages and distinct brand, including key results and financial data dashboards, individual country profiles, as well as enhanced visibility for ECW's wide range of partners.

As ECW enters its second strategic plan and a new cycle of data reporting, this is an opportune time to enhance the current website contents to further enhance access to more up-to-date data and information, ensure all pages are updated, strengthen digital integration across ECW's digital channels, and improve the site's overall performance and SEO to strengthen ECW's brand digital presence.

How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the assignment will include a total content update of the ECW website undertaken within a period of 1 year to be delivered as per the schedule/timeline below.

Under direct Supervision of the Communication Manager the scope of work of the Web Consultant for the website encompasses a broad array of tasks to enhance the performance of the platform as a crucial digital advocacy, communications, accountability and transparency tool for the ECW global fund.

This work will be conducted in close collaboration with members of the ECW Advocacy and Communications team and working across the ECW secretariat teams to collect inputs.

The Web Consultant will also engage externally with the ECW web vendor and relevant UNICEF colleagues.

Task and activities:

1. Enhance website contents and features

  • Review and update all pages, in close collaboration with the Advocacy and Communications Team and other relevant ECW teams.
  • Post new contents, including text, videos, infographics, documents and interactive elements.
  • Develop and create engaging and compelling contents for the website, aligned with the organization's mission and objectives, including new landing pages and online reports.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to enhance the site's contents, ensuring it aligns with organizational goals, brand and messaging.
  • Work with the ECW web vendor, including developers, to identify and coordinate relevant updates in the CMS.

2. Data visualization and dashboards

  • Develop interactive visuals for ECW website pages in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Refresh existing visuals by incorporating new data supplied by various ECW teams.
  • Coordinate the development of website features to facilitate the integration of interactive analytic graphics.
  • Craft dynamic website pages that complement the release of reports, announcements, and blog posts, embedding interactive visuals, photos, maps, and more.

3. User Experience (UX)

Optimization:

  • Analyze website analytics to understand user behavior and preferences.
  • Identify opportunities for UX improvements and implement changes to enhance user satisfaction and engagement across devices.
  • Improve site speed and overall UX experience, including for audiences with low bandwidth connectivity.
  • Enhance site map, structure, menu and search functionality.
  • Review and enhance taxonomy and tags.

4.

Digital integration and strategy :

  • Enhance SEO strategy and results.
  • Measure and track effectiveness of site updates using analytics.
  • Enhance analytics reports to better inform editorial decisionmaking and improve ECW's digital presence and reach.
  • Optimize and implement digital communication strategies to increase the organization's online visibility and reach.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance the organization's digital impact based on latest digital trends.

5.

Security, safeguarding and accessibility compliance:

  • Follow best practices to ensure the website meets applicable security, safeguarding and accessibility standards
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to enhance the site's contents and features in line with relevant regulations and standards, implementing necessary changes for compliance.
