Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly qualified Nutrition Educator to manage the implementation of the Seniors Health Improvement Nutrition Education (SHINE) grant. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering nutrition education workshops, planning live cooking demonstrations, and distributing nutrition education materials to low-income older adults throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and deliver nutrition education workshops at Older Adult Centers (OACs) and Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs)
  • Plan and implement live cooking demonstrations on site and virtually
  • Distribute hard or electronic copies of nutrition education materials and reinforcement items
  • Conduct evaluations by distributing pre and post-tests at each workshop and compiling results
  • Compile data, maintain records, and submit reports as required by NYC AGING and the grant
  • Create and develop quarterly nutrition newsletters
  • Coordinate vendor fairs to increase awareness of community resources to support healthy eating
  • Assist in implementing a food box distribution program and a Container Gardening Project
  • Participate in related NYSOFA meetings, training, and webinars

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree from an accredited college in nutrition or in public health; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 18 semester credits in nutrition or public health on the graduate or undergraduate level, and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education

Assignment Levels:

  • Assignment Level II: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above, one (1) year as a Nutritionist AL I with the City of New York or at least three (3) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education.
  • Assignment Level III: To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described in Assignment Level I, two (2) years as a Nutritionist AL I and AL II with the City of New York or five (5) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in nutrition education, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
