Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Coordinator, Service Learning and Civic Engagement. This position is the primary contact person to promote, design, develop, oversee, and implement an academic service learning (and civic engagement) program at the University of Nevada, Reno. The Coordinator manages the daily operations to include assisting community partners, faculty, and students to develop service partnerships, collaborating with academic units on campus to integrate service-learning in the curriculum, promoting service-learning opportunities across campus, overseeing maintenance of files and tracking of student learning participation, and organizing service events on campus.

The position works frequently and collaboratively with the Service-Learning Council. The position reports to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE).

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Identify, develop and sustain academic service-learning and civic engagement opportunities
  
• Identify appropriate community partners for service-learning opportunities for students and faculty to support course learning
  
• Promote academic service-learning and civic engagement as an important component of experiential learning and as part of the UNR student experience
  
• Provide and assist with faculty professional development training opportunities and resources to develop expertise and proficiency for best practices in service-learning
  
• Provide guidance on the creation and maintenance of the community partner and agreement inventory
  
• Collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g., Center for Student Engagement, Career Studio, Outreach and Engagement Council, Legal Counsel, etc.) towards the development and institutionalization of service-learning on campus, and in support of civic engagement at UNR
  
• Manage unit budget and resources
  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience; OR

Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related Experience: service learning/civic engagement or internship placement; or related

Certification and Licensure:

Nevada Driver's License

Schedule or Travel Requirements:

Frequent local travel to visit community partner sites within a 35 mile radius

Occasional travel to regional, national, and international conferences for professional development

Compensation Grade

Administrative Faculty - B

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

The University is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Department Information

The Office of Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (OSLCE) is the hub for service-learning and civic engagement at the University of Nevada, Reno and within the Reno community. OSLCE facilitates relationships between University faculty and community organizations for the purpose of providing structured experiences outside of the classroom that align with the curricular learning taking place inside the classroom. The integration of an academically rigorous model of learning and meaningful service with the community assists the student in achieving learning outcomes that help encourage civic responsibility.
