The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the Leadership U program (LU) under the direction of the President and CEO and in partnership with the volunteers from the Leadership U Steering Committee to effectively organize and coordinate the ongoing activities and events of the program. 

 

Leadership U (LU) is a 6 -month tuition-based program for students entering their junior year in high school. 

 

The Program Coordinator also works with Leadership Howard County's Senior Program Manager in the planning and implementation of the Leadership Premier program, providing regular administrative and logistical support. 

 

Leadership Premier (LP) is a 10-month, tuition-based program for senior-level business, government, nonprofit and community leaders. 

 

Reports to: Senior Program Manager 

 

Employment Status: Full Time 

 

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Leadership U Program & Event Coordination: 

Serve as the primary staff for: 

  • Facilitation of the planning, coordination, and implementation of the LU program model, in partnership with the LU steering committee and under the direction of the Senior Program Manager.  Support volunteer steering committee chairs in planning, meeting coordination and follow up 
  • Train volunteer mentors on specific roles and create opportunities for further volunteer engagement 
  • Manage catering and venue scheduling and setup 
  • Produce materials and supplies for session days, summer week and related events for participants, parents, and volunteers 
  • Assist mentors and committee members with using TEAMS (or other file sharing technology) 
  • Serve as onsite lead during summer week, session days and events, as needed. 
  • Handle communications such as: session day calendar invitations, topic selection surveys, evaluations, thank you’s, payments (coordinate with staff accountant), needed follow-ups. 
  • Organize Program Graduation, including event agenda, student presentations and coordinate invitation and registration. 

 

Leadership U Program Development: Spearhead the creation and enhancement of new and existing programs by conducting thorough needs assessments, setting strategic goals, and utilizing best practices to ensure high-quality, impactful outcomes. 

 

Leadership U Growth and Expansion: Drive the growth of programs through innovative marketing strategies, robust partnership development, and continuous improvement processes, resulting in increased engagement and measurable success. 

 

Alumni Engagement: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to engage students during their senior year and maintain active, meaningful connections with alumni post-graduation through targeted communications, events, and mentorship programs. 

 

Leadership U Recruitment and Selection  

Guide the Leadership U Recruitment and Selection process. 

  • Execute the Recruitment & Selection cycle to include presentations to parents and students, develop relationships with high school administrative staff, guidance counselors and interested teens 
  • Manage production (replicate) and distribution of recruitment and selection materials 
  • Input and track all applicant data – follow up with applicants/program inquiries 
  • Provide reports for data analysis and scoring 
  • Schedule & confirm interviews for potential applicants 
  • Provide and collect acceptance documents from selected class members; create files 
  • Produce (replicate) and distribute class materials both electronic and paper; includes production of all training materials for students 
  • Recruitment event support, i.e., catering, event space/virtual support 
  • Work with accountant for financial tracking of and processing of tuition 


Coordination Support for Leadership Premier (LP) Programming 

Provide administrative and logistical support to Program Manager throughout the entire program cycle, to include Learning Opportunities and Community Impact Projects 

 

  • Serve as onsite secondary support during LP kickoff, retreat, and session days 
  • Lead the execution of Learning Opportunities: 
  • Map out the LO calendar to coordinate with session days 
  • Manage and work with volunteers, committee, and hosts to schedule all LOs 
  • Coordinate and manage the registration and logistics of Learning Opportunities (including Sign Up Genius, Calendaring, and Coordination with LP Participants), and all corresponding outreach and communication. 

 

General Operations 

  • Assist with other activities as identified and requested.  
  • Representing LHC at community events 
  • Working collaboratively with staff, board, volunteers, and participants 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with youth in a non-profit, for-profit, or educational institution 
  • Familiarity with basic project management skills 
  • Experience with Microsoft suite products, familiarity with SalesForce a plus 
  • Detail oriented 
  • Excellent volunteer management skills and experience 
  • Exceptional communication, event planning and logistical skills 
  • Experience balancing multiple priorities effectively 
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team, in both leading and supportive roles 
  • Spanish Bi-lingual skills are a plus 

 

Salary Range: $43,000 to $47,500
