Built upon 15+ years of research at the labs of Prof. Farren Isaacs (Yale) and Prof. Michael Jewett (Stanford/Northwestern), Pearl’s platform combines synthetic biology, genomically recoded organisms, and ribosomal engineering to genetically encode chemistries into novel medicines and materials.


About the Role: We are looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and committed Senior/Principal Scientist to advance our protein purification, drug conjugation, and analytical efforts at Pearl Bio. The person would be responsible for protein production and characterization and play a pivotal role in driving innovation towards the discovery and development of programmable biologics in Pearl Bio's pipeline. This is an opportunity to be a core team member advancing cutting edge synthetic biology and genome engineering for transformative biotherapeutics. 


Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with 3-5 years of work experience, or M.S. with at least 8-10 years of relevant industry experience.

• Expertise in developing and optimizing protein purification methods and analytical techniques used for characterization (Affinity, SEC, IEX, HPLC, HIC, SDS-PAGE, ELISA), including proficiency in AKTA chromatography systems, is necessary.

• Experience in mass spectrometry (orbitrap, QTOF) and associated chromatography instruments for intact mass spectrometry and peptide mapping/sequencing of recombinant proteins is highly preferred.

• Hands-on experience with Developability studies for protein therapeutics, including biophysical techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (DSF), Circular Dichroism (CD), Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI), Capillary Isoelectric Focusing (cIEF) and Capillary Electrophoresis-SDS (CE-SDS) is preferred. 

• Working knowledge of bacterial and mammalian expression systems and molecular biology, including DNA synthesis, cloning, and gel electrophoresis is a plus.

• Familiarity in computational protein modeling and design tools (molecular dynamics, docking simulations, AI/ML, etc.) is a plus. 

• Excellent data analysis skills, experience with electronic lab notebooks, and managing and mentoring junior scientists. 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, team environment, with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage projects.
