SCHOOL PROFILE
The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008. The School educates and boards 400 students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education. In the same token, the SEED School of Maryland runs a tutoring intervention program which is a state-funded program, under CARES Act, overseen by MSDE, designed to provide extended learning and tutoring opportunities to students. The tutoring intervention program will be open after school for planned academic tutoring activities, Monday through Thursday, and in some cases weekends if need be.
SUMMARY
The Academic Support Staff will support the academic success of students by substituting classes, providing behavior support, providing small group instruction, and duties as needed by the Director of Academics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES but not limited to:
- Provide meaningful instruction to students in assigned classrooms while the regular teacher is absent
- Review and implement regular teacher's routines, procedures, lesson plans, and curriculum objectives
- Establish and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment
- Report any student injuries, illness, and serious discipline problems to school administration
- Perform other duties as directed by school administration
- Provides effective classroom/student management, clear instruction and implements lesson plans provided. May be required to develop lesson plans and assess student achievement in long term assignments.
- Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
- Collaborates with other professionals to implement instruction and related activities.
- Ensures the classroom and/or instructional environment is healthy, safe, and conducive to learning.
- Monitors student behavior in non-instructional areas as assigned or required and intervenes to control and modify disruptive behavior as appropriate.
- Reports all accidents, injuries, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority.
- Travels with students on field trips as needed.
- Moves students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices as required.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
- Must be able to attend all Professional Development days

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 2 or more years of teaching experience
- Experience working with children in a group or classroom setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Microsoft office skills and Google skills
- Dependable
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of teaching.
- Ability to form positive relationships with students, parents, aides and other staff members.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The work involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, offices, meeting and training rooms, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
