Job Summary:

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for administering and managing the company’s employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other related offerings. This role involves ensuring compliance with legal requirements, providing support to employees regarding benefits inquiries, and working closely with vendors to deliver cost-effective and competitive benefits packages.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Benefits Administration: Manage the day-to-day operations of the group benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, 401(k), etc.).
  • Employee Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefit-related questions, issues, and claim resolutions, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and others. Prepare and file required reports, such as 5500s.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with benefits vendors to negotiate contracts, resolve service issues, and maintain effective relationships. Monitor vendor performance to ensure service levels are met.
  • Open Enrollment: Plan and execute the annual benefits open enrollment process, including employee communications, system setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Education and Communication: Develop and deliver employee communications and training sessions to educate staff about benefit offerings and changes.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate benefits data in HRIS systems. Audit data for accuracy and ensure proper documentation is in place.
  • Cost Analysis: Assist in analyzing the cost-effectiveness of benefit programs and recommend changes to improve competitiveness and employee satisfaction.
  • Wellness Programs: Support the development and implementation of wellness initiatives to promote a healthy workplace.
  • Reporting: Generate and analyze reports related to benefits usage, costs, and trends. Present findings and recommendations to management.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in benefits administration or a similar HR role.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations related to benefits (e.g., ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA).
  • Experience with HRIS and benefits administration systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Certification (e.g., CEBS, SHRM-CP) is a plus.


Work Environment:

This role typically operates in an office environment in Milwaukee, WI. Occasional travel may be required for meetings or training.
