Role Summary
We are currently seeking a Senior Underwriter who will be responsible for evaluating, pricing, and analyzing contracts and policies for group employers. This role requires a keen understanding of group demographics, medical questionnaires, claims history, and other unique risk factors.
- Utilizes Underwriting authority to ensure compliance with Optimyl's policies while maintaining profitability and sustainable growth.
- Determines when to reject quotes that do not align with the overall risk strategy.
- Conducts thorough risk assessments for new business enrollments, annual renewals, and policy amendments in accordance with established underwriting standards.
- Implements market data and policy guidelines to enhance risk management and optimize enrollment.
- Evaluates financial conditions, participation rates, industry types, and past claims experience to determine suitable benefits and set competitive rates.
- Generates comprehensive reports and provides analytical support to various departments regarding underwriting outcomes, rate calculations, and financial metrics.
- Delivers precise expense estimates and detailed financial analysis.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of Optimyl's procedures and protocols.
- Operates with minimal oversight from management while executing essential responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manages a portfolio of renewing accounts and acquires new business at profitable levels to meet Optimyl's business objectives.
- Employs various systems and tools to gather necessary data and accurately complete assigned tasks.
- Assesses group eligibility and employee participation during new business quotes and mid-year additions.
- Calculates rates, analyzes financial arrangements, interprets pricing policies, and adapts to unique scenarios.
- Identifies unusual claim patterns and evaluates competitors' claims data to formulate strategic recommendations.
- Applies corporate risk management policies and adjusts for exceptional circumstances not covered by standard pricing formulas.
- Recognizes non-compliance with corporate risk management policies and enrollment criteria.
- Enforces Optimyl's business rules regarding participation and product availability.
- Recommends necessary pricing adaptations based on client-specific situations.
- Assesses individual member risks and aggregates them to the total group risk.
- Supports internal initiatives, including underwriting policies, training, fraud detection, and product development.
- Completes renewals and prospective quotes while reviewing the work of junior analysts in accordance with production standards.
- Adapts to shifting priorities as new quotes are received from various markets.
- Communicates policy recommendations clearly, supported by sound rationale.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for sales and account management teams.
- Influences sales strategies and pricing structures for quotes, collaborating with market partners as needed.
- Mentors and provides technical guidance to junior analysts.
- As assigned, oversees departmental tools and processes.
- Participates in system development and process improvement initiatives.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.

- 6 years of relevant progressive experience.
Experience Requirements:
· 3 - 5 years in underwriting self-funded plans and converting fully insured prospects into self-funded clients.

Compensation: Base Salary Range $85,000—$90,000 USD
