Associate Narrative Director

ROLE OVERVIEW:

As an Associate Narrative Director, you will play a vital role in maintaining excellence in storytelling by guiding writers working on specific segments of a game's narrative content. This position is crucial in our mission to develop games that leave a positive and enduring impact on players' lives through engaging narratives and leading others towards the same goal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plays a key role in the creative process by contributing to the development of characters, plotlines, and pivotal storytelling elements in collaboration with the Creative Director, story team, and other production members.
  • Collaborates with the Narrative Director and project leadership to shape the narrative vision and makes decisions to uphold it.
  • Supervises the work of the story team to ensure that quality standards are met.
  • Utilizes feedback from various sources to set priorities for a portion of the game's narrative content.
  • Leads or participates in writer's room sessions for brainstorming, story evolution, and addressing narrative challenges.
  • Crafts scripts for games, focusing on detailed scene and character descriptions, including camera angles, facial expressions, sets, lighting, etc.
  • Writes scripts for both real-time and cinematic sequences, coordinating with different teams for implementation.
  • Reviews scripts by other writers regularly and provides constructive feedback.
  • Engages in playing games under development to evaluate the work from the player's perspective.
  • Stays informed about design changes necessitating script updates, rewrites, and adjustments to downstream production plans.
  • Serves as a liaison for other departments, bridging the gap between narrative design and execution, and collaborates closely with other developers to resolve narrative presentation challenges.
  • Offers input on enhancing presentation elements, including VO implementation and visual aspects related to the overarching story.
  • Assists in maintaining the schedule and scope for designated sections of a project across various production stages.
  • Demonstrates comprehension of resource constraints and cooperates with other production departments to find innovative solutions to complex narrative issues.
  • May be assigned other duties as necessary.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises a team of writers and narrative coordinators on a project, which involves training, assisting in planning and directing work, evaluating performance, and mentoring team members as needed.
