Job Description:
The Quality Engineer focused on Military contracts is responsible for supporting manufacturing quality, quality training, and testing with an emphasis on products supplied to the Military. The role involves developing and executing comprehensive plant-wide training programs, investigating reasons for nonconformity through statistical analysis of inspection and test data, leading to the implementation of corrective measures and other continuous enhancement initiatives that span the entire organization, including New Product Introduction (NPI) validation, development of test validation plans, assessment of work instructions, establishment of inspection/sampling protocols, and procurement of new inspection equipment.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in mechanical and/or optical inspection methods and tools, a solid grasp of technical drawings, specifications, and standards, substantial familiarity with multi-stage manufacturing processes, and a track record of enhancing quality systems through Internal Auditing and Training program development. Proficiency in working with Military specifications and contracts is a prerequisite for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

Primary:

Collaborate with Quality Management to establish, implement, and sustain the quality management system by:

  • Evaluating and analyzing Military documents used in formulating proposals for new products.
  • Developing/updating Military contracts including Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) documentation.
  • Devising standards and methodologies for inspection, testing, and evaluation, leveraging engineering knowledge when necessary.
  • Collaborating with the manufacturing team to introduce new testing criteria or assembly methods.
  • Conducting sampling procedures and devising electronic forms and instructions for quality data recording, assessment, and reporting.
  • Designing and implementing a comprehensive employee training program that emphasizes quality awareness and enhances knowledge of manufacturing control plans and inspection procedures.
  • Analyzing failures and implementing corrective and preventive actions in response to audits.
  • Supporting ammunition testing activities by coordinating with relevant personnel and reviewing data and hardware to ensure adherence to contractual specifications.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to elevate the quality system, such as 5S and Kaizen lean methods, by:

  • Reviewing inspection data to ensure accuracy and conducting data analysis.
  • Evaluating the Material Review Board (MRB) process to identify non-conforming products and prioritize corrective actions.
  • Applying problem-solving techniques and root cause analysis to address quality issues.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve quality-related challenges and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the disposition of discrepant material.

Secondary:

  • Work closely with the Supply Chain to handle Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) and Corrective Actions/Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Interpret contract test requirements and specifications to guide test procedures.
  • Support Design of Experiments (DOE) and other 6-Sigma initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 5 - 7+ years of relevant experience with Military Contracts.
  • Extensive knowledge of quality tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 / TS-16949 standards.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of metrology concepts and inspection techniques.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and tools.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in relevant software.
  • Strong team player with attention to detail.
  • Capability to travel domestically as required.
  • ASQ CQE and/or Six Sigma Certification desirable.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, ATF, EAR regulations is advantageous.
  • Experience with Oracle software is a plus.

Working Environment:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
