Position Summary: The Ballistics Quality Technician I plays a crucial role in conducting visual and dimensional inspections as well as performance evaluations of ammunition. This position adheres to established control and testing protocols while collaborating with various departments, including R&D and Manufacturing Engineering, to address design and production challenges. The technician will possess foundational knowledge of firearms and ammunition components and will work closely with internal teams and external government clients under supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct basic ballistics tests in compliance with control plans and established standards, including chamber pressure, velocity, and other performance metrics, under supervision.
  • Identify and report any nonconformities following the Red Tag process.
  • Review production Bills of Materials to ensure accuracy and effective lot numbering.
  • Perform range inspections as per documented procedures.
  • Participate in testing at various locations, potentially in the presence of government representatives.
  • Engage in workplace organization initiatives and maintain a clean and efficient work environment.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement projects and activities.
  • Adhere to all safety and ISO standards.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality as an essential function of the role.
  • Be flexible to work in different areas or shifts based on operational needs.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; no prior experience necessary.
  • Basic skills in reading drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data analysis techniques; knowledge of Oracle EBS is a plus.
  • Ability to achieve range certification within the first year and understand relevant testing standards.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present information effectively.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and a collaborative approach to assisting colleagues.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and communicate challenges to leadership.

Working Environment:

  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks in a manufacturing setting.
  • Primarily standing for the majority of the shift, with breaks as scheduled.
  • Shifts may vary in length (8, 10, or 12 hours).
  • Expect exposure to typical manufacturing conditions, including lifting and moving materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Frequent physical activity, including bending, kneeling, and using fine motor skills.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, along with depth perception.
  • Compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory.
  • Adhere to all environmental health and safety training protocols.
