The recently established Rice Sustainability Institute builds on the strong research and curricular programs Rice scholars have developed in the past 40 years on the topics of sustainability, energy, climate and environment.

The Program Operations Lead provides administrative support to the Rice Sustainability Institute and the centers and programs housed within the Institute.

This position plays a key operational role in enabling the Institute mission by planning and overseeing successful delivery of its programmatic activities.


Workplace Requirements:

Hiring Range:
$57,500 to $61,500, contingent upon qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of administrative and financial experience

Essential Functions:

  • Administers operations for the institute and its centers / programs, ensuring efficient, effective and productive operations
  • Creates and implements plans to achieve the mission and objectives of the institute and its centers / programs
  • Plans, organizes and manages events logistics for the institute and its centers / programs (e.g., annual meetings, workshops, symposia) from conception to completion, including
  • Consulting with stakeholders to determine the objectives and requirements for each event
  • Planning the event with attention to financial and time constraints
  • Overseeing the budget planning and management
  • Managing all event operations, such as maintaining mailing lists, booking and preparing facilities, securing vendors for catering and promotional materials, scheduling speakers, etc.
  • Overseeing the event on the day of and acting quickly to resolve problems
  • Interprets, implements, and ensures compliance with policies and regulations and recommends changes to procedures and processes
  • Analyzes data, identifies trends, develops reports and recommends and implements changes to improve alignment with institutional mission and goals
  • Provides support in creating and implementing outreach plans with internal and external entities, including logístical support for meetings and visits
  • May assist with fundraising activities
  • Creates budget plans, monitors and approves expenditures, develops reports, conducts analyses and manages and maintains financial records
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
