Position Description

Founded in 1972,The Montessori School is a non-profit, independent educational institution for preschool and elementary children ages 2 years 9 months - 12 years old.

It has a dedicated staff of over 35 employees. The total current enrollment stands at approximately 140 students.

The Montessori School is in solid financial health, employs an excellent faculty and staff, and delivers an authentic, comprehensive Montessori curriculum.


The Montessori School is dedicated to the Montessori philosophy and is strongly invested in creating a unique, student-centered learning environment and helping families nurture respectful, responsible, and resourceful children.

Highly qualified, Montessori-certified guides foster a love of learning and help all children reach their fullest potential at their own unique pace.

Guides strive to educate the whole child, inspiring children to be caring, socially responsible participants in their community and in the larger world.


Essential job responsibilities include:

Human Resources:

- coordinate hiring, on-boarding, training, and engaging new employees (approximately 3-15 per year)
- coordinating benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, LTD/STD, etc for 32-40 employees throughout the year with the support of a great local insurance broker, and integration between Employee Navigator and PayCor

  • PayCor data, timecards, payroll every two weeks and other payrelated coordination
- overseeing key Human Resources components such as open-enrollment, insurance renewals, benefit reports, Employee Assistance Program renewal and similar
- supporting employees with questions, concerns, professional development opportunities
- present Human Resources and Admissions updates to the Board of Directors each month
- working closely with the Board of Directors' HR designee to ensure HR excellence throughout the school and to best support our employees
- trainings for employees about how to utilize our free & confidential EAP (Employee Assistance Program) for themselves and their households to increase utilization
- oversee annual performance appraisals, job description updates, performance improvement plans and similar employee relations
- working closely with administrative team to ensure a positive, healthy work environment for all

Admissions:

- coordinating admissions to our school for primary and elementary programs, with the support of the Co-Directors
- coordinating tours, classroom visits, and meetings with potential caregivers and Co-Directors
- creating, assigning, and retaining student enrollment contracts with close attention to detail
- working closely with the administrative team to create promotional materials and promote admission events such as School Open Houses and Mini-Montessori
- collecting data to ensure our programming is meeting the needs of our current and potential families
- supporting administration with the tuition assistance process

Safety:

  • Learn and uphold all school policies and procedures
  • Complete Body Safety, Mandated Reporter, and other safety trainings
  • Follow school safety policies & procedures for visitors, tours, and other events

Communication

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with caregivers from varied backgrounds about our school, their student's needs, and options for the best education
  • Communicate with the Board of Directors and Co-Directors regularly to ensure a positive school environment for everyone
  • Protect student privacy in accordance with FERPA and school policies.
  • Report all safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, or failure to uphold school policies/procedures to the Co-Directors or the Board of Directors of TMS.
  • As a Mandated Report, report suspected child abuse or neglect to the appropriate Michigan agency in accordance with Mandat
