Purple Heart Homes (PHH), a nonprofit organization, is in need of a Regional Communications Manager (RCM) to join the Marketing and Communications team at our headquarters in Statesville, North Carolina. This is an on-site role.

Reporting directly to the Director of Communications at PHH, the RCM will play a crucial role in enhancing brand recognition, promoting programs and achievements, supporting advocacy initiatives, and involving supporters in the organization's mission to offer safe, accessible housing solutions for eligible veterans.


The RCM will devise proactive communication strategies, craft and implement consistent messaging tactics, create impactful press materials, and oversee media interactions.

This role will collaborate closely with the Marketing & Communications team, as well as engage in cross-functional teamwork with a 3-person regional group, consisting of a Regional Donor Relations Manager and Regional Project Manager.

The regional team will collaborate to attract new supporters and partners, set up new PHH Chapters, and bolster the growth of existing Chapters in the specific region.

The RCM will be responsible for coordinating volunteer activities, Veteran Mission Complete ceremonies, and fundraising events within the region.

The ideal candidate must display a strong work ethic, possess initiative, and wholeheartedly embrace PHH's fundamental values and mission.

They will establish connections with various local, national, trade, and unconventional media outlets, nurturing relationships with journalists, bloggers, editors, and other media professionals to publicize and communicate PHH's strategic priorities.

The RCM will also collaborate closely with diverse coalitions and Veteran organizations to advance PHH's mission.
Responsibilities


Key Responsibilities

  • Work in coordination with a diverse team, comprising a Regional Project Manager and Regional Donor Relations Manager, on regional campaigns, fundraising initiatives, new chapter creation, and ongoing chapter administration and support.
  • Develop press materials for targeted state and local campaigns, including alerts, press releases, press kits, and visual assets.
  • Cultivate pivotal relationships with the press, reaching out proactively with story ideas/interview opportunities, and promptly responding to incoming media inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to devise effective messaging and communication strategies.
  • Create, distribute, and collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team on a variety of communication tools, such as press pitches, editorial notes, press releases, statements, talking points, presentations, paid media materials, and digital content.
  • Partner with the Digital Marketing Manager to publicize regional events, fundraising activities, and volunteer openings on the PHH website and relevant social platforms.
  • Drive the coordination and development of emerging messaging chances.
  • Act as the official spokesperson for PHH when necessary.
  • Offer media relations guidance and training to PHH employees and chapter representatives. Support with interviews and other public appearances as needed, including preparing talking points and interview materials.
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers for events in the region.
  • Organize and oversee all Veteran Mission Complete events.
  • Capture photo and video content at events that can be utilized across different channels in various formats.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and/or Chief Marketing Officer.

Travel Requirement: 50% of the time.

Qualifications

  • At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in media relations, marketing, or communications.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in creating and executing communication strategies.
  • Exceptional writing and editing abilities.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively to internal and external audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Capability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of securing placements in traditional and digital media.
  • Established relationships with prominent regional and national journalists and bloggers are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce (or similar CRM systems) and media distribution/tracking tools.
