The Resource and Support Specialist, Adult and Community Education is responsible for enhancing the overall services, providing day-to-day support and provides guidance to students in the College's adult literacy and community education programs. Reporting to the Manager, Adult and Community Education, this position serves as a liaison between students, program participants, the College, and partner community-based organizations. As a resource conduit to facilitate connections to internal College and external community resources, this specialist provides case management services to assist students and participants in the removal of barriers, and supports students and participants in the successful transition into the College's academic and workforce credit and credit-free programs to enhance student and program outcomes and performance.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, programming, and activities to keep students and program participants informed of and connected with services and resources at the College.
  • Serve as the College's on-site representative for adult literacy programming offered at community-based organizations (CBO) to coordinate services and programming (Free Library locations, Harambee Charter School, etc.), working with CBO staff to ensure successful program operation.
  • Coordinate and conduct recruitment events, intakes, assessments, and orientations for students enrolled at a CBO site
  • Connect students and program participants to relevant and needed internal and external academic, social/emotional, community resources and services to address academic and social barriers.
  • Maintain documentation on meetings with students and participants to track connections with identified resources and supports while monitoring effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Compile and maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date community resource library for staff, students, and participants to access as needed.
  • Collect and input data using CitySpan and the College's internal databases
  • Participate in the planning and facilitation of student and participant orientation programs and information sessions.
  • In collaboration with Manager, Adult and Community Education, review and compile data for reports and for contract and funder needs, as needed.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and internal and external colleagues in a collegial, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Deliver high quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional, respectful, and helpful manner.
  • Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in a social service or student-oriented educational environment providing case management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Strong problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of a working knowledge and understanding of the various resource and community-based agencies and supports available to address academic and social barriers in Philadelphia.
  • Knowledge of and experience with adult literacy education programs (ABE, GED/HSE, ESL).
  • Bi-lingual.
