**Overview**
Provides technical support for the operating room by setting up and operating specialty equipment, developing training programs for OR staff, assuring availably of appropriate equipment for daily OR schedule, assists OR staff in problem-solving as needed. Assists and advises OR nursing leadership in planning for an implementing new technologies.
**Responsibilities**
Develop own expertise in various pieces of equipment used during operative procedures such as computers and video devices, ultrasound, imaging and tracking equipment, robotics, microscopes, stapling devices, drills, etc.
Work with OR nurse manager and assistant nurse managers to introduce new technologies by evaluating and planning for the interface with the OR environment, training staff, developing protocols and written guides.

Assist OR nurse manager, assistant nurse managers and SPD manager to evaluate new equipment for purchase and used in a particular surgical service
Monitors maintenance, preventative and repairs, with the Biomedical Services Department. Be familiar with service contracts
Coordinate with OR scheduling to ensure appropriate equipment is available, alert nurse manager to equipment conflicts
Assist nurse manager and SPD in developing instrument sets, disposables, tools, etc. associated with implement new pieces of equipment
Understand the Or environment related to surgical procedures - asepsis, policies, procedures, roles of personnel
Participate in cost-containment activities including frequency of use of equipment and value to department - assess and provide input for future purchases
Develop visual and written tools and guides for equipment use that are readily accessible and user friendly
Interface with vendors and company representatives to learn new equipment requirements and develop training programs.
Serve as a resource to staff, surgeons and nurse managers as needed
Assist clinical staff in making technology safe and easy to apply to patient care
Ongoing assessment of competence of clinical staff to handle equipment and associated supplies and instruments

**Qualifications**
Required
Education
Associate degree in a health sciences field, computer area or related field
Experience
1 year OR experience. Familiarity with OR technology as applied to patient care
Preferred
Education
Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field, computer area or related field
Experience
Previous experience with above referenced equipment. More than 1 year OR experience.
Additional requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
Completion of Image Guided Surgical systems (through Medtronic) within 6 months of hire. Total of 5 days of required training (2 day Crani, 2 day Spine, 1 day ENT) and completion of certificate for each.
