Jumpstart Community Engagement Student Coordinator

Jumpstart at Pace partners with HeadStart preschools within the lower Manhattan community to provide weekly programming for preschool aged children. The Community Engagement Coordinator recruits, trains, and manages volunteers for various Jumpstart service projects that address specific program and community needs. The volunteers engaged can consist of a combination of college students, clubs/service organization members, family members of the children served, community members, Jumpstart alumni, corporate partners, donors/funders, and others who can participate in a range of service projects designed to deepen the site/program’s impact and visibility within the community. Service project categories include one-day (short-term) events and/or multi-day (long-term) activities.

- You must have Work Study funding added to your awards BEFORE applying for this position. You are potentially eligible for Work Study if you are a US Citizen or permanent resident, have filed a FAFSA, are enrolled in at least 6 credits, and are in good academic standing.

As an AmeriCorps member, the Community Engagement Coordinator complete an intensive, year-long commitment and make a substantial impact on the life of young children. During the school year, the Community Engagement Coordinator serve 300 hours, 8-12 hours per week both on campus and off campus at our preschool partner sites by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

Essential Functions

- Volunteer Recruitment and Training
- Event Planning and Implementation
- Volunteer Management and Tracking
- Evaluation of Volunteer Projects
- Family and Alumni Engagement

Marginal Functions

- Research relevant community organizations and service events to coordinate additional hours and team/community building opportunities for Jumpstart Corps Members
- Research relevant campus partners or community organizations to coordinate additional leadership and/or professional development opportunities for Jumpstart Corps Members
- Facilitate and coordinate Jumpstart’s literacy kit activities project and distribute literacy kits to selected preschools on a weekly basis
- Present Jumpstart to Pace University 101 classes and Pace recruitment fairs and enroll students who need to fulfill their civic engagement hours requirement
- Outreach to potential volunteers through in-person conversations, posting to social media, and hosting recruitment events throughout the academic year
- Facilitate and support training of volunteers on topics that relate to Jumpstart’s language, literacy and social-emotional learning outcomes for preschool-aged children

- Log into your MyPacePortal and click on Student Home and then the “Financial Aid” box (middle of screen).
- Once in Financial Aid, select the “Award Offer” tab and the correct Award Year.
- Scroll down to “Options to Pay Net Cost” and take a screenshot of the funds that are allocated specifically to Work Study for the academic year. Make sure your name is captured in the screenshot, then upload the screenshot, and submit it along with your application.
- If these details are not available in the “Award Offer” section of your profile, you are NOT currently eligible for Work Study funding. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident, and you have filed a FAFSA, you can open a Help Desk ticket with Financial Aid to determine your Work Study eligibility.
