Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will oversee the execution of milling and paving projects. Primary responsibilities will be oversight and supervision of interstate projects normally conducted at night. He or she will supervise field employees, order materials, manage subcontractors, and coordinate with customers and sales personnel to complete projects in accordance with Palmer’s commitment to production, quality, and safety. This is a superintendent position in Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving industry. Participate in activities to support Senior Management. Gather complete project information from Management and Sales Personnel. Determine project-specific staffing and equipment requirements, and coordinate with Dispatch.
Order construction materials (liquid calcium chloride, Portland cement, liquid asphalt, etc.) Clearly assign daily tasks to field employees and supervise their progress.
Engage with Quality Control staff as needed to ensure work product is in accordance with specifications.
Conduct site safety meetings with field personnel. Engage with customers’ representatives and inspectors to execute a project that is mutually satisfactory. Palmer’s customer base consists of municipal public works departments, state DOT’s, general contractors, housing developers, and homeowners’ associations.
Complete all projects within budget constraints.
Extensive knowledge of construction operations and specifications.
Basic PC skills including email and spreadsheet applications.
Travel:
This position requires some out-of-state and overnight travel. This position will require the Superintendent to be highly mobile and work in a very dynamic environment, depending on the time of year and operational workload. This position requires significant portions of the season to be worked at night on the interstate.
