Job Summary:
Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will manage the execution of milling and paving projects. Key responsibilities include overseeing and supervising interstate projects typically conducted during nighttime hours. The Superintendent will direct field personnel, procure materials, manage subcontractors, and collaborate with clients and sales teams to ensure project completion aligns with PII's commitment to production, quality, and safety. This role is situated within the Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving sector, requiring prior experience.
Essential Functions:
1. Engagement and Respect: Participate in initiatives supporting Senior Management. Collect comprehensive project details from Management and Sales Teams. Attend pre-construction meetings as necessary.
2. Thorough Preparation: Conduct detailed site evaluations before mobilization to ensure readiness.
3. Determine project-specific staffing and equipment needs, coordinating with Dispatch.
4. Order construction materials (such as liquid calcium chloride, Portland cement, liquid asphalt, etc.) and monitor quantities to ensure adherence to budgeted amounts.
5. Clearly assign daily responsibilities to field personnel and oversee their progress.
6. Collaborate with Quality Control staff as necessary to ensure compliance with specifications.
7. Safety Promotion: Conduct site safety meetings with field staff. Foster a safety-oriented culture and comply with all applicable OSHA and company safety regulations.
8. Customer Engagement: Interact with client representatives and inspectors to deliver mutually satisfactory project outcomes. PII's clientele includes municipal public works departments, state DOTs, general contractors, housing developers, and homeowners' associations.
9. Review employee time sheets for accuracy.
10. Ensure all projects are completed within budget constraints.
Requirements, Education, and Experience:
1. 5+ years of relevant construction experience.
2. Extensive knowledge of construction operations and specifications.
3. Proficiency in reading plans and specifications.
4. Strong leadership capabilities.
5. Keen attention to detail.
6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
8. Comprehensive understanding of job costing.
9. Capacity to make prompt and informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
10. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
11. Basic computer skills, including email and spreadsheet applications.
