Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing the execution of milling and paving initiatives. Key responsibilities include supervising interstate projects typically conducted during nighttime hours. The role involves managing field personnel, procuring materials, overseeing subcontractors, and collaborating with clients and sales teams to ensure project completion aligns with our dedication to production, quality, and safety standards. This position is specifically within the Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving sector, and prior experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Engagement and Respect: Actively participate in initiatives that support Senior Management. Collect comprehensive project details from Management and Sales teams. Attend necessary pre-construction meetings.
2. Thorough Preparation: Conduct a detailed assessment of the work site prior to mobilization to ensure readiness.
3. Determine staffing and equipment needs specific to each project and coordinate with Dispatch.
4. Order construction materials (such as liquid calcium chloride, Portland cement, liquid asphalt, etc.) and monitor quantities to ensure adherence to budgeted amounts.
5. Clearly assign daily tasks to field staff and oversee their progress.
6. Collaborate with Quality Control personnel as necessary to guarantee that the work meets all specifications.
7. Safety First: Conduct safety meetings with field personnel. Foster a culture of safety and comply with all relevant OSHA and company safety regulations.
8. Client Engagement: Interact with customer representatives and inspectors to ensure project satisfaction. Our clientele includes municipal public works departments, state DOTs, general contractors, housing developers, and homeowners' associations.
9. Review employee time records for accuracy.
10. Ensure all projects are completed within budgetary constraints.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction experience.
2. Extensive understanding of construction operations and specifications.
3. Proficient in reading plans and specifications.
4. Strong leadership capabilities.
5. Exceptional attention to detail.
6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
8. Comprehensive understanding of job costing.
9. Ability to make prompt and informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
10. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
11. Basic computer skills, including proficiency in email and spreadsheet applications.
