Essential job duties of this position include:

* Ensures all required training of assigned canine personnel is completed in a timely manner in accordance with directives.
* Produces and maintains a monthly canine training calendar that covers all areas of canine team proficiency.
* Completes quarterly HP-METL training with assigned K-9 Teams.
* Ensures all K-9 post orders are maintained and updated to comply with all state and federal mandates.
* Ensures explosive inventory is maintained and replaced in accordance with state and federal requirements and guidelines.
* Maintains and updates all lesson plans related to the training of canines, explosive detection K-9 teams, and the safe handling, transporting, and storage of explosive training aids.
* Conducts initial 400 hours training for new K-9 Handlers as set forth in Washington State Administrative Code and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Policy Manual Chapter 6 "Canine Certification Requirements."
* Ensures all teams are certified meeting the DOE Standard 1242-2023 Canine Explosive Detection Team Certification.
* Conducts daily proficiency training for canine handlers and canines.
* Ensures assigned canine personnel are properly trained and equipped to complete daily assigned tasks.
* Ensures all equipment is serviceable and replaced when needed.
* Ensures all assigned vehicles are properly equipped and maintained in order to meet mission requirements.
* Maintains thorough knowledge of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
* Responsible for the immediate and effective deployment of canine teams to protect Hanford resources.
* Responsible for the overall safety of personnel and canines assigned to the program and ensures handlers comply with established safety policies and procedures while practicing safe work habits.

Basic Qualifications
* BA/BS degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration or related discipline, plus eight (8) years of experience - OR - an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must maintain a Department of Energy Federal Commission.
* Must have a valid state driver's license.
* Maintain a Human Reliability Program position.
* Must have a minimum of two (2) years as a Canine Handler/Trainer.
* Must be able to obtain Washington State Police Canine Association Trainer certification.
* Must be able to obtain a Washington State Labor and Industries Explosive Handler and Purchaser License.

***Must be able to obtain and maintain a "Q" Clearance. Any offer of employment is contingent on the applicant passing a background investigation. As part of the investigation, Federal investigators will examine many aspects of the applicant's past including: financial and criminal histories, mental and emotional health, education and travel, drug and alcohol usage, personal and organizational relationships, as well as other aspects of the applicant's background.

Desired Qualifications
* Ability to obtain and maintain, at a minimum, Security Police Officer I/Basic Readiness qualifications.
* Have experience with records management, preparation, and analysis.
* Prior experience as an instructor.

In-depth knowledge of:
* Principles of Conditioning relating to canine training.
* Detector dog protocols.
* First Aid for canines.
* Canine proficiency training.
* Explosive handling, accountability, transporting, and storage.
* Recognizing canine training deficiencies and take appropriate corrective actions to resolve these deficiencies.
* Recognizing handler training deficiencies and take appropriate corrective actions to resolve these deficiencies.

Compensation & Benefits
Grade 18: $104,175 to $131,425
Grade 19: $114,475 to $144,325
Grade 20: $126,025 to $158,875
