The Return Utah program is a formal career reentry program, designated for Utahns desiring to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Along with a state job and traditional on-the-job training, Return Utah roles provide 16-weeks of transitional support (similar to an internship) which includes an office technology review, coaching, career development, mentorship, networking opportunities and job market readiness training.

Career break reasoning is irrelevant to hire. Program participants have taken career breaks for varied reasons including childcare, chronic illness, caring for a family member, educational pursuits, retirement, military service, volunteerism, entrepreneurship, political office, travel, etc. 

To be eligible for this return-to-work opportunity candidates:

Must have a career break of one year or more at the time of application

(unless the candidate is affiliated with the military in any way including as a military spouse/partner), or

Demonstrate underemployed at the time of application

and

Have prior professional/life experience in a functional area of interest

This is a Full Time Intent-to-hire opportunity. Upon completion of the Return Utah program, based on performance, participants may receive a long term offer of employment.

We are searching for a skilled, organized, and professional individual to join us as a Licensing and Compliance Specialist.


As a Licensing and Compliance Specialist, you will:


Provide excellent customer service for our business partners and the general public.

Ensure compliance with state laws, and department rules and regulations.

Monitor existing licenses and permits, including visiting sites.

Review applications for new licenses, permits, and one-time events.

Provide training for the public.

A Candidate must:

Have a valid Driver License.

Be at least 21 years of age.

Be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally.

Be able to pass a background check.

The Ideal Candidate will:


Have research and investigation experience.

Have experience in reading and applying laws, rules, and policies.

Have experience conducting financial audits.

Be customer service-oriented, as the DABS works to introduce and implement our “Starting From a Place of Yes” philosophy.

Be able to communicate clearly in verbal and written form with a diverse population.

Be able to present themselves in a professional manner in varying types of venues, including establishments where liquor is sold.

Have excellent attention to detail.

Be well versed in Microsoft Office Suite.

Be able to travel as needed, including overnight stays.

Summary of Benefits Offered 

Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

High deductible option with a low bi-weekly premium as well as employer contributions into a health savings account to help with out of pocket medical costs. Traditional plan with a low cost bi-weekly premium. Low premium costs for dental and vision insurance.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

Employer contributions equal to 10% of your salary between both a pension and 401(k) plan or a 401(k) only plan.  Employer match of up to $26 per paycheck into your 401(k) on top of what you will already be receiving. Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.


Paid time off:

Eligible employees may accrue 4 hours of annual leave and 4 hours of sick leave each pay period. (Annual leave accrual rate increases with years of service).  12 paid holidays.

Example of Duties

Duties include: 

Maintain and/or create files or record keeping systems.  Travel within the state to review license applications and conduct audits of licensed establishments. Review data, records, and files for detail and accuracy. Act as an expert witness by giving testimony and /or recommendations in court cases and/or hearings. Conduct training to educate managers and staff members about compliance with 32B of the Utah State Code.
