Are you passionate about ensuring the safety and security of individuals in a healthcare environment? The State of Utah is looking for a dedicated Safety and Security Specialist to join our team at the Utah State Hospital.

This facility caters to a diverse population, including children, adolescents, adults, and forensic patients within an inpatient mental health framework. Your role will be crucial in maintaining a secure environment across our expansive 300-acre campus.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Safety and Security Specialist, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Monitoring activities across the campus.
  • Overseeing the protection of materials, equipment, and property.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification as a Special Functions Officer (SFO) or higher.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges.
  • A flexible schedule and willingness to provide on-call support as necessary.

This position is a full-time role, offering 40 hours of work per week along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Additional Responsibilities:
As part of your role, you will also:

  • Provide security for buildings and grounds, safeguarding against theft, vandalism, and unauthorized access.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the premises and enforce laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and other agencies as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies and administer first aid when required.
