This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS-The contractor shall:
  • Provides technical experience to create various graphic artwork an designs for medical and scientific purposes.
  • Produce cost effective, quality desktop publishing products for a variety of scientific presentations, providing multiple analysis of science; produce non-scientific presentations as well.
  • Proactively provide illustrations and graphics for features, press releases and media advisories; design graphic and images that are posted on social media (Facebook twitter); produce graphic elements for digital signage
  • Perform layout and production of print products, including project brochures, exhibit materials, exhibit itself, event signage, report covers, lecture and meeting posters and signage.
  • Research appropriate content to produce graphic elements and plan content for graphic/figures.
  • Provide motion graphic support for video editor for special projects; set up video equipment for webcasts and operation camera and recording equipment.
  • Provide support for a variety of intramural efforts, including journal covers, binder designs, event posters, image enhancements, color correction and other special projects and education resources, including formatting, text, photo composition and layout.
  • Provide image sourcing and selection written and print communications products, including press releases, emails, webpages and print handouts, using high end graphics creation and support for publications and presentations.
  • Apply Institute identity style guidelines to all products, including meeting materials, reports, email newsletters, digital signage, videos, educational resources and other branded materials.
  • Provide design and layout for annual newsletters.
  • Provide support and individual training with graphic software; train staff on current software and options.
  • Produces medically accurate representations of scientific and medical materials or ideas for publications, websites and presentations.
  • Provide consultation to the IC Director and staff via conference calls and at on-site meetings to ensure complete and accurate information needed to prepare slides for presentations.
  • Ensure that the presentations reflect the latest science; read scientific journals and publications; attend meetings; remain up-to-date on the latest research developments.
  • Develop and execute illustrations of complex biological alcohol and drug processes in preparation for the slide presentations.
  • Develop and produce infographics, including combo text and illustrations to explain scientific concepts that enhance institute storytelling.
  • Provide support for visual communications, scientific figures in presentations and assistance with importing graphics, animation and templates.
  • Take raw scientific data from the laboratory and format into graphics/figures.
  • Provides technical or functional experience in both Mac and PC environments.
  • Use both the Mac and PC to carry graphic responsibilities
  • Revises work products based on management feedback.
  • Work with lab personnel to finalize manuscripts for publishing.
  • Obtain approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval.
  • Assists with various graphic design projects based on direction from senior medical illustrator.
  • Work with IC Director and staff on editing existing slide bank.
  • Submit final product for approval by senior staff.
  • Provide support for visual communications, scientific figures in presentations and assistance with importing graphics, animation and templates.
  • Provide support for all scientific poster printing requirements for NHGRI, including printing research posters for scientific events and scheduling 20-45 posters per event; provide printing management for 35 posters per site visit, two site visits per year.
  • Provide support and individual training with graphic software; train staff on current software and options.
  • Provide design and layout for annual newsletters, Clinseq, JHU/NHGRI Genetic Counseling Training Program and the ADHD Genetic Research Study at NIH.
  • Apply Institute identity style guidelines to all CPLB products, including meeting materials, reports, email newsletters, digital signage, videos, educational resources and other NHGRI-branded materials.
  • Provide image sourcing and selection CPLB written and print communications products, including press releases, emails, webpages and print handouts.
  • Provide high-end graphics creation and support for publications and presentations for the NHGRI Division of Intramural Research and the Communications and Public Liaison Branch; uphold NHGRI standards for manuscripts for a variety of scientific journals.
  • Design products for the annual NHGRI symposium, including the booklet, posters, signage, slides and other materials.
  • Provide support for a variety of intramural efforts, including journal covers, binder designs, event posters, image enhancements, color correction and other special projects within IPSO, and education resources, including formatting, text, photo composition and layout.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphics Design or a related discipline
  • Experience in Health Medical Professions and Commercial Art and Graphic Design
  • Software - MS Office Skills
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
